We are seeking a talented and ambitious Junior Sous Chef to join our culinary team and support the continued success of YOPO Zaytoun. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate chef looking to develop their career within a dynamic luxury hospitality environment, working alongside experienced leaders and contributing to an innovative dining experience.
The Role
As Junior Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef and Sous Chef in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, ensuring the consistent delivery of exceptional food quality, presentation, and service standards.
You will play a key role in leading the kitchen team during service, maintaining operational excellence, and helping to create memorable dining experiences for our guests.
Key ResponsibilitiesKitchen Leadership & Team Development
- Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef in leading and motivating the kitchen brigade.
- Supervise and guide Chef de Parties and Commis Chefs, ensuring high standards are maintained.
- Assist with training, coaching, and development of junior team members.
- Lead by example, promoting professionalism, teamwork, and a positive kitchen culture.
Food Preparation & Service
- Ensure dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards.
- Maintain consistency, quality, and attention to detail during all services.
- Assist in menu development and contribute creative ideas where appropriate.
- Monitor food quality, portion control, and waste management.
Operations & Compliance
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of kitchen operations.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations.
- Assist with stock control, ordering, deliveries, and inventory management.
- Help maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment.
Performance & Standards
- Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Assist in achieving food cost targets and operational efficiencies.
- Maintain The Mandrake’s high culinary and hospitality standards at all times.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
About You
You are a passionate and driven chef with experience in high-quality restaurant or hotel kitchens and a desire to further develop your culinary career.
Essential Experience
- Previous experience as a Junior Sous Chef, Senior Chef de Partie, or similar role.
- Experience within premium restaurants, luxury hospitality, or high-volume quality dining environments.
- Strong understanding of food preparation, kitchen operations, and food safety standards.
- Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining exceptional quality.
- Experience supporting and mentoring junior team members.
