Residential Salesman
Responsible for converting inbound enquiries from domestic customers into successful staircase refurbishment projects. The role manages the residential sales process from the initial customer enquiry through to order confirmation and handover to the operations team.
Main Responsibilities
Lead Management & Conversion
- Respond promptly to residential enquiries from the website, showroom, and referral sources.
- Conduct in-home consultations to assess customer needs and property requirements.
- Present tailored staircase refurbishment, new staircases & storage solutions using design software, product samples, and visual aids.
- Convert qualified leads into confirmed orders through a consultative sales approach.
- Follow up on quotations and enquiries to maximise conversion rates.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build strong relationships with homeowners to understand their vision and project requirements.
- Guide customers through the design and specification process, clearly explaining available options and technical aspects.
- Maintain regular communication with customers throughout the sales journey to ensure a positive experience.
- Address customer questions and concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Ensure a smooth customer experience from initial consultation through to project completion.
Sales Process Management
- Attend scheduled appointments to discuss customer requirements and specifications.
- Measure staircases and collect relevant site information to support accurate proposals.
- Prepare clear and accurate quotations for residential projects.
- Maintain detailed records of customer interactions and opportunities within the CRM system.
- Coordinate with the design and technical teams for drawings and specifications where required.
- Provide a clear handover to the operations team once an order is confirmed.
Market Development
- Develop relationships with potential referral sources such as tradespeople, designers, and previous customers.
- Represent the company at home and garden shows, exhibitions, and local networking events.
- Generate referrals through excellent customer service and post-sale follow-up.
- Maintain awareness of residential market trends and competitor offerings.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- 3–5 years’ experience in residential sales, ideally within home improvement, construction, or interiors.
- Proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (phone, video, and in-person).
- Customer-focused approach with patience and empathy.
- Ability to explain technical products and processes to homeowners clearly.
- Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel for home consultations.
Desirable
- Experience with staircase, joinery, or architectural products.
- Knowledge of residential construction or refurbishment processes.
- Background in interior design or related field.
- Experience using design software or interpreting technical drawings.

Working Conditions
- Full-time position with some evening or weekend appointments to accommodate customer availability.
- Primarily field-based role with regular home visits within the operating area.
- Office time required for quotation preparation, customer follow-up, and internal coordination.
- Physical ability to measure staircases and assess installation requirements.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary: £35,000 – £40,000 depending on experience
