Purpose of Role
We are seeking a dedicated Group HSE Lead, responsible for providing strategic leadership and governance of Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the Walker Group.
The role is responsible for embedding Health, Safety and Environmental excellence throughout the organisation by integrating HSE performance within the Walker Way Lean Operating System and SQDCP framework. Through effective governance, risk management and continuous improvement, the role will ensure compliance with applicable legislation, support operational excellence and achieve and thereafter maintain certification to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
Key Responsibilities:
HSE Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and deploy the Group HSE strategy aligned to business objectives and the Walker Way.
- Lead the Safety pillar within the SQDCP framework and Balanced KPI Scorecard.
- Champion a culture of accountability, engagement and continuous improvement.
- Provide professional HSE leadership and guidance across all Group operations.
Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Lead risk management, incident investigation and corrective action activities.
- Develop and maintain effective HSE management systems and standards.
- Drive improvements in HSE performance through proactive monitoring and engagement.
Governance & Compliance
- Lead the Group's HSE governance framework, policies and procedures.
- Manage internal and external audits and certification activities.
- Achieve and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification.
- Report HSE performance, risks and improvement activities to the Executive Team.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Embed HSE within the Walker Way Lean Operating System.
- Support SQDCP reviews, KPI management and operational excellence initiatives.
- Utilise structured problem-solving techniques to eliminate recurring issues and improve performance.
- Drive continuous improvement projects that enhance safety, environmental and operational outcomes.
Training & Culture
- Develop HSE awareness, competence and leadership capability across the Group.
- Promote employee engagement and ownership of HSE performance.
- Support managers in delivering safe, compliant and environmentally responsible operations.
Stakeholder Management
- Build effective relationships with operational leaders, regulators, customers and certification bodies.
- Represent the Group during audits, inspections and customer assessments.
- Work collaboratively across all functions to deliver business objectives.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience – Required:
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent professional qualification.
- Significant HSE leadership experience within manufacturing, engineering or a regulated industrial environment.
- Demonstrable experience of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Experience leading audits, investigations and compliance programmes.
- Understanding of Lean principles, KPI management and continuous improvement
Qualifications, Skills & Experience – Desirable:
- Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).
- ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification.
- Multi-site manufacturing experience.
- Aerospace or advanced manufacturing experience.
- Experience working within a Lean Operating System and SQDCP environment.

Pay: £55,000.00-£75,000.00 per year
