Position Summary
Reporting to the Refinery & Packing Plant Manager, a Shift Coordinator will work as part of the wider site team and lead their team to deliver world class results. Communicating with key stakeholders whilst prioritising and resolving issues promptly and escalating where appropriate. The Shift Coordinator will aim to produce world class products ensuring their team adhere to the standards expected, motivating and supporting where needed. Ensuring their team is trained to the required level and helping prioritise workload across site. The Shift Coordinator will drive continuous improvements in safety, food safety, quality and environmental standards whilst carrying out their role.
Responsibilities:
Safety (including Food Safety & Environment)
· Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant working environment across site.
· Act as the focal point for emergency situations, coordinating response and escalation.
· Communicate safety concerns to teams using the correct reporting and escalation tools.
· Ensure all team members adhere to safe behaviours, policies, and procedures. Promote a culture of collaboration and excellence
· Issue Permits to Work where required.
· Investigate safety incidents, policy breaches, and absences using the correct tools.
· Ensure compliance with environmental standards and site food safety requirements.
· Be responsible for the safe unloading of ships, including liaising with ship crew, agents, and supervisors, ensuring all systems and controls are operational and safe.
Quality
· Ensure production of world-class products in line with site quality standards.
· Drive compliance with site GMP expectations, hold the team accountable to maintain the required standards. Seek to continuously improve those standards
· Maintain food safety and quality compliance across all operations.
· Investigate customer complaints and drive corrective actions.
· Develop, update, and enforce SOPs and standard routines.
· Ensure teams adhere to quality standards and right‑first‑time principles.
· Drive continuous improvement in quality standards across site.
Cost
· Manage shift resources efficiently across site to meet production priorities.
· Minimise waste, rework, and inefficiencies through effective problem solving.
· Support lean ways of working and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Optimise labour deployment through flexible resourcing and workload prioritisation.
Delivery
· Deliver agreed production plans and world‑class operational results.
· Coordinate and prioritise production requirements on shift across refining, packing, warehouse and shipping.
· Communicate effectively with upstream and downstream functions to resolve issues promptly.
· Facilitate plant problem solving, troubleshooting, and fault‑finding on processes and equipment to maintain output and flow.
· Act as point of contact for out of hours call out of internal or third-party resource
· Support other site functions when required to ensure continuity of operations.
· Execution of Asset Care activities through the site deployment on your shift
People
· Provide first-line management for shift teams, including:
· Absence management, Return‑to‑Work discussions, Policy investigations
· Motivate, support, and coach team members to achieve performance expectations.
· Ensure all team members are trained and competent to the required level, completing regular updates of the appropriate skills matrix
· Create, implement, and sustain key standard routines.
· Hold team members to account, recognise good performance
· Promote a strong safety, quality, and performance culture.
· Work collaboratively while remaining self‑motivated and accountable.
Skills, Experience & Capability
Essential
· Experience in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
· Team leadership / supervision / coaching experience
· Strong safety, quality, and environmental mindset
· Flexible and adaptable to short‑notice changes
· Good work ethic and self‑motivation
· IT competency including Excel, Outlook and Word
· HNC level education or equivalent
Desirable
· Food manufacturing (continuous process)
· Lean manufacturing knowledge
· Oils & Fats or chemical process manufacturing experience
· SCADA knowledge
· Shipping operations experience
· FLT, Scissor Lift, Banksman training
· Production line experience
