Smart Solutions is recruiting on behalf of our client for a Workshop Maintenance Technician / Plant Maintenance Fitter to join a busy waste management and recycling facility based in Broxburn.

- 13:00 – 21:00
- Ongoing position
- Overtime opportunities available and can be discussed with the Site Manager
The Role
You will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing plant machinery and equipment to ensure the efficient operation of the waste processing facility while minimising downtime.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlanned Preventive Maintenance (PPM)
- Carry out scheduled maintenance on conveyors, shredders, balers, compactors, hydraulic systems, and associated plant equipment
- Follow maintenance schedules and manufacturer specifications
- Accurately record maintenance activities and completed works
Reactive Maintenance & Repairs
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical faults
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns
- Repair or replace defective components including bearings, motors, belts, sensors, and related parts
Workshop Duties
- Carry out welding, fabrication, and repair work when required
- Safely operate workshop equipment including grinders, drills, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
Health & Safety
- Follow all site health and safety procedures
- Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures when isolating machinery
- Wear appropriate PPE and report any hazards or incidents
Inspections & Reporting
- Conduct routine plant inspections
- Identify potential faults before breakdowns occur
- Complete maintenance reports and job documentation
- Communicate effectively with operational teams, supervisors, and contractors
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in industrial, mechanical, or plant maintenance
- Experience within waste management, recycling, manufacturing, or heavy industry is advantageous
- Good knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
- Basic electrical fault-finding skills desirable
- Welding and fabrication experience (MIG, TIG, or ARC preferred)
- Ability to read technical drawings and maintenance manuals
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or similar
- Engineering or Plant Maintenance Apprenticeship desirable
- IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification advantageous
Additional Information
- Ability to speak Polish would be beneficial but is not essential
- The role is based within an industrial waste and recycling environment and will involve exposure to machinery, noise, and dust
