Full job description

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function at our Rugby site, covering both site services and manufacturing operations. This role has a strong focus on high-value contracts within Hydro, Navy, and major rotating machinery projects, ensuring robust commercial governance across the entire project lifecycle.

You will be responsible for end-to-end commercial management, including contract negotiation, risk management, claims strategy, and financial performance. Working closely with Business Managers, Project Management, and Sales teams, you will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially effectively, and with risk appropriately managed.

Key Responsibilities:

Support and advise on commercial strategy for major contracts, particularly Hydro and large new-build projects
Interpret, negotiate, and manage complex contract terms (NEC, FIDIC, and bespoke agreements)
Negotiate terms and conditions with clients, customers, and suppliers
Develop and maintain agreed Terms & Conditions for major customers
Ensure strong commercial governance from bid through to project close-out
Work closely with Project Managers to ensure adherence to contractual obligations
Manage change control, variations, and compensation events
Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities
Maintain accurate records and audit trails to support claims and dispute resolution
Lead the management and resolution of disputes, claims, and potential litigation, working with HQ Commercial and external legal counsel
Interface with HQ Commercial to align strategies and protect the business position
Support project teams to ensure correct insurance coverage is in place
Assist Business Managers with contract review processes
Ensure compliance with all internal policies, procedures, and safety standards

Your skills and experiences:

Proven experience (5+ years) in a Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveying, or Legal role
Strong financial and commercial acumen
Excellent attention to detail with a proactive approach to risk management
Strong negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills
Demonstrable experience working on large, complex engineering or infrastructure projects
Ability to guide and support multi-disciplinary delivery teams
Relevant HNC, degree, or equivalent qualification
Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance
Solid experience working with NEC and/or FIDIC contract frameworks
Full UK driving licence
