Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced colleague to join us as Patient Advice and Complaint Team Manager on a secondment/fixed term contract basis for an initial period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension and potential to become permanent.

The post holder will lead the day-to-day operation of the Complaints and PALS function, supporting high-quality, timely and compassionate responses to concerns and complaints, while ensuring learning is identified and used to improve services across the Trust.

The successful candidate will take a significant leadership role in the implementation of a new complaint handling system and will require stakeholder engagement across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage the Complaints and PALS team, ensuring Trust policies, NHS complaints regulations and relevant national guidance are followed. They will support complainants, staff and services through the complaints process, promote early resolution where possible, and provide specialist advice on complex, sensitive and contentious cases.

Key duties include overseeing complaint investigations and responses, supporting local resolution, risk scoring and escalation, identifying themes and areas of risk, and producing reports for committees and the Board. The role will also contribute to staff training, policy development, effective use of complaints systems, and the wider sharing of learning to support a positive, restorative and improvement-focused culture.

Masters level qualification in relevant field or equivalent experience Professional qualification or relevant equivalent experience

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria

Knowledge of clinical and social care services, legislation, service management acquired through post graduate qualification or equivalent plus further experience or training and management experience to Master’s Level.
Significant experience in complaints handling or customer care
Previous management experience in a similar role, preferably in the NHS
Developed leadership, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to motivate, challenge and engage individuals and teams

Desirable criteria

Demonstrable understanding of governance, risk and safety in healthcare
