The Role
As our Gardener you will ensure the maintenance and presentation of the gardens, grounds and external areas of the property are always looking attractive. Reflecting in these high standards a sense of pride and ownership of tasks to deliver cared for and tidy grounds and gardens. They create a welcoming first impression and pleasant outside environment for hotel guests and visitors so are an important part of delivering the outstanding service.
The 26 acres include mainly woodland areas, with formal beautiful gardens and feature pond surrounding the main buildings. A tree lined driveway with shrubbed areas and lawned areas are all requiring your attention.
Duties include;
- Working to a clear, well thought out, seasonal plan with Gardening Assistant to ensure success and excellent presentation all year round
- Completion of all gardening duties and tasks ensuring all borders and planted areas are well presented
- Ensure top quality lawns through effective spiking, treating as well as regular mowing trimming of lawn edges and watering.
- Ensure all driveways and parking areas are clean and well maintained
- Care for all pots/planters and plant with seasonal displays
- Ensure all paths are swept, well maintained and in good safe repair
- Carry out seasonal pruning, hedge trimming, planting and leave clearing as required
- Liaise with external grounds contractors for larger tasks
- Ensure the safe use and maintenance and security of all tools, equipment, machinery and vehicles used on the grounds/gardens
- Working in a safe way taking care to always ensure guest safety and comfort in the scheduling and completion of tasks
- Management of resources Garden Assistant to ensure consistent standards getting approval from General Manager for expenditure
- Liaising with the sales team to ensure the correct focus of work to ensure a great impression for outside events/weddings
- Always ensuring planned work does not interrupt guests enjoying their stay
- Ensuring confetti is blown away from the entrance to the hotel
- Disposing of ash from fireplaces following safe practices of work in place
- Ensuring supply of wood for open fires throughout the winter
- Complete some basic maintenance duties in case of extremely bad weather
Requirements
- Passionate gardener and grounds person with good all-round knowledge
- Enthusiastic working outside throughout the year with good level of fitness and stamina for outside working
- Methodical, tidy and well managed working methods to ensure all priority areas are maintained and well-presented throughout the week
- A smart person with a friendly disposition when meeting guests in the grounds and working with colleagues
- Ability to work varied days 3 days per week including some weekends. 8.00am to 4.30pm with seasonal changes
