Site Apprentice
Salary Range: £8.00 per hour (apprentice wage)
Hours of Work: 37 hours per week (8am-4pm) (4 days on site 1 day at college)
Weeks Worked: Full Time – 52 weeks per year
Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Primary School is looking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Site Apprentice to join our welcoming primary school’s premises team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in facilities management, maintenance, or site operations within an educational setting.
Working under the supervision of the school caretaker, you will assist in ensuring the school environment is safe, clean, secure, and well-maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors. You may from time to time be required to work within other schools in the Trust
Key Responsibilities
● Assist with general maintenance and minor repairs across the school site
● Support the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and facilities
● Help maintain a safe and secure environment, including opening/closing the site
● Assist with health & safety checks and compliance tasks
● Support with setting up rooms for school events and activities
● Learn basic skills in plumbing, electrics, carpentry, and grounds maintenance
● Daily cleaning duties

Main purpose
The Site Apprentice will support the day-to-day operation, maintenance and security of the school site while working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification. This role is ideal for someone looking to start a career in facilities, maintenance, or estates within a school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Site and Facilities Support
· Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of school buildings and grounds
· Carry out basic repairs and routine maintenance tasks under supervision
· Help with setting up rooms for lessons, events, exams and meetings
· Support health and safety checks, including fire safety and risk assessments
· Carry out some regular cleaning tasks
Security and Safety
· Assist with opening and closing the school site
· Monitor the site to ensure it remains safe, secure and tidy
· Report faults, hazards or incidents promptly to the Site Manager
Grounds and Environment
· Help maintain outdoor areas, including playgrounds and green spaces
· Assist with seasonal tasks such as gritting, litter picking, and basic gardening
Apprenticeship & Learning
· Attend off-the-job training sessions as part of the apprenticeship programme
· Complete coursework, assessments, and practical training requirements
· Learn and follow school policies, procedures and safeguarding requirements
Person Specification
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
A positive attitude and willingness to learn
Good timekeeping and reliability
Ability to follow instructions and work safely
Basic practical skills or an interest in hands-on work
Commitment to completing an apprenticeship
Willingness to work in a school environment with childre
Ability to commute to the other schools within the Trust as required, including using email
Interest in maintenance, construction, or facilities management
Basic DIY or mechanical experience
Good communication and teamwork skills
Pay: £25,989.00-£26,403.00 per year
