Role Overview
Lester Cladding North West Ltd employs a skilled site team to deliver high-quality cladding and building envelope installations. This role encompasses Cladding Labourers, who support the installation process with preparation, handling, and basic installation tasks, and Cladding Installers, who carry out the detailed and technical installation of cladding, flashings, and SFS frameworks. Both roles require a strong focus on Health & Safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.
Cladding Labourer Responsibilities
Cladding Labourers provide essential support to the installation team and are responsible for the preparation, handling, and basic assembly of cladding components:
- Assist installers by passing tools and materials and maintaining an organised work area.
- Carry and position sheets, panels, flashings, and insulation.
- Remove protective film from sheets and flashings, and prepare materials for installation.
- Apply mastic and air seals to flashings and components under instruction.
- Install spin-safe or stitcher screws as required and secure materials safely.
- Cut insulation, wool, or other materials to size as instructed.
- Mark up sheets and pre-cut flashings for installation.
- Operate basic hand tools such as snips, jigsaws, and ripsaws, and assist with fitting pre-cut flashings.
- Perform site tidying, including brushing and cleaning sheets, debris removal, and general housekeeping.
- Operate plant equipment or handling tools where trained (e.g., fork trucks, IPAF platforms, harness work).
- Support the installer team by measuring simple flashings and preparing components for installation.
Cladding Installer Responsibilities
Cladding Installers are responsible for the technical installation of cladding and building envelope systems, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with project specifications:
- Install a wide range of cladding systems, including flashings, gutters, façades, and SFS frameworks.
- Read, interpret, and work from construction and fabrication drawings.
- Carry out installation tasks independently or as part of a team, including complex and bespoke details.
- Prepare, check, and maintain all tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring proper storage and security.
- Plan and prioritise work to ensure materials and accessories are ready and delivered on time.
- Conduct quality checks, rectify defects, and ensure all work meets company standards.
- Apply air seals, fixings, and weatherproofing details to maintain building envelope integrity.
- Resolve site issues and technical challenges, adapting details where drawings are incomplete.
- Measure and mark out flashings and components, including bespoke or complex items, for fabrication.
- Use specialist tools such as heat guns and welders to complete finishing tasks.
- Liaise with site supervisors, design teams, and client representatives to maintain project progress.
- Maintain accurate records of work progress, including photos and site reporting tools.
- Uphold Health & Safety standards on site, lead by example, and ensure all work complies with regulations.
- Mentor and guide labourers and less experienced operatives, supporting their development and ensuring quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in cladding, façade, or building envelope work.
- Labourers: CSCS Green Card and basic site experience; experience with hand tools, handling, and protective equipment.
- Installers: CSCS Supervisor Card, with experience reading technical drawings and performing detailed installation.
- Health & Safety training: WAH, Harness, SSSTS/SMSTS as appropriate.
- Forklift, IPAF, and other plant operation certifications advantageous.
- Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines while maintaining quality.
