About the Role
Do you believe that learning practical skills can transform lives? Are you passionate about hairdressing and barbering, and excited by the opportunity to inspire young people to discover their talents, build confidence and prepare for adulthood?
At the Hummingbird Site, 3 Dimensions School, we're looking for an enthusiastic and nurturing Hair Tutor (BTEC) to lead our vocational Hair provision and help students unlock their potential through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
This is much more than teaching a qualification. It's about helping young people develop independence, self-belief and real-world skills that will support them long after they leave school.
As our Hair Tutor, you'll deliver an exciting and practical BTEC Hair curriculum within a professional salon-style environment, tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with Special Educational Needs, including Autism (ASC), SEMH, ADHD and those who have experienced trauma.
You'll bring learning to life through creative, vocational experiences that encourage students to take pride in their achievements, develop employability skills and gain recognised qualifications.
Working closely with the wider education, therapy and pastoral teams, you'll create a nurturing environment where every learner feels safe, valued and capable of success.
What You'll Be Doing
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated BTEC Hair lessons that meet individual EHCP outcomes and aspirations.
- Create a realistic salon environment where students can develop practical hairdressing and barbering skills with confidence.
- Embed literacy, numeracy, communication and employability skills into vocational learning.
- Assess, monitor and record student progress in line with BTEC requirements and moderation processes.
- Develop and maintain an inspiring Hair curriculum that promotes independence, preparation for adulthood and real-life learning.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that support engagement, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing.
- Adapt teaching using visual supports, structured routines, sensory strategies and trauma-informed approaches to ensure all learners can thrive.
- Contribute to EHCP reviews, target setting and collaborative planning alongside therapy and pastoral colleagues.
- Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding, salon safety, hygiene and professional practice.
- Enrich learning through enterprise projects, internal salon experiences and community opportunities where appropriate.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about helping young people achieve, grow in confidence and believe in themselves.
- Experienced in, or genuinely enthusiastic about, hairdressing and barbering.
- Experienced in delivering, or willing to work towards delivering, BTEC Hair qualifications.
- Patient, calm and nurturing, with a positive and relational approach to supporting learners.
- Creative and adaptable, with the ability to engage and inspire students with a wide range of SEND needs.
- Skilled at building positive relationships and managing behaviour effectively.
- Flexible, resilient and solution-focused in their practice.
- Organised, with excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
- Committed to inclusive education and preparing students for successful futures.
- Experienced in working with young people, ideally within SEND, specialist settings or alternative provision.
- Ideally qualified to Level 2 or Level 3 in Hairdressing/Barbering (or equivalent).
- Knowledgeable about EHCPs, SEND strategies and individualised approaches to learning.
- Familiar with assessment and tracking systems such as Evidence for Learning (desirable).
- Full UK Driving Licence
