Cartmel Priory C of E School are looking to recruit two Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentices to join their team this September!

Cartmel Priory C of E School is a successful and welcoming 11–16 secondary school set in the beautiful village of Cartmel. Our ethos is rooted in the belief that young people should be given the opportunity to “live life to the full”, developing the wisdom, knowledge and skills needed for adult life.

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and caring individual to join our team as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone considering a career in education who would like to gain valuable school-based experience while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise and provide particular support for students, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes
Establish constructive relationships with students and interact with them according to individual needs
Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students
Encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self esteem and independence
Provide feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher
Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to student responses
Undertake programmes linked to local and national learning strategies, eg literacy, numeracy, KS3, early years recording achievement and progress and feeding back to the teacher
Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop students’ competence and independence of its use
Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist students in their use.
Help create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of student’s work
Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support students to achieve learning goals
Assist with the planning of learning activities
Monitor students’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed
Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on students’ achievement, progress, problems etc
Promote good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour
Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers
Administer routine tests and invigilate exams and undertake routine marking of student work
Provide clerical/admin support, eg photocopying, typing, filing, money, administer coursework etc.

Capacity to work on own initiative and under own supervision
Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner with adults and young people
Ability to work co-operatively with teachers, administrative staff and students and to offer and accept assistance as necessary
Ability to provide effective support at GCSE level

Working hours

Monday - Friday 8.15am - 3.30pm
