We are looking to appoint a Head of Data Strategy & Insights to lead the next stage of BHASVIC's data and digital transformation. This is a newly created, upper management role at the very heart of how the college understands itself and makes decisions. Working closely with the Vice Principal for Digital & Communications, you will own the college's data architecture, governance framework and business intelligence capability — turning data into clear, trustworthy insight that supports students, curriculum teams and college leadership.

BHASVIC has invested in building strong foundations — a modern data warehouse, a new governance model, and a skilled team — and this role will take that work forward: moving the college towards a governed, insight led way of working that informs how we support young people.

Who are you?

You're a natural problem solver who enjoys untangling messy, real-world data and turning it into something clear and useful.

You think strategically — you can see how a data architecture, a governance framework and a college's priorities fit together — but you're just as happy rolling up your sleeves and building it: writing the SQL, shaping the pipelines, designing the dashboards.

You're curious about what data can reveal and energised by the idea of building a capability from the ground up rather than inheriting a finished product.

You're a generous colleague who enjoys developing others and can explain complex things simply, so that data becomes something the whole college can use and trust.

You care about the difference good data makes to young people's education — not just the technical craft, but what it's ultimately for.

What you'll do

Lead and develop the College Data Strategy, presenting to the Senior Leadership Team and Governors.

Take ownership of the college's data warehouse and data governance framework, extending and evolving the architecture.

Build and grow our Power BI reporting and dashboard suite, moving the college to insight led reporting.

Develop and embed the standards that govern how data is defined, accessed and quality assured across the college.

Chair our Data Quality Team, providing a clear, collaborative forum for how key data is defined and used.

Line manage, mentor and develop the Data & Reporting Analyst, growing analytical capability across the team.

Lead the college's use of AI and emerging technologies for analytics and prediction — supporting student intervention, curriculum planning and operational efficiency.

What we're looking for

Demonstrable experience in data strategy, data architecture, business intelligence or a closely related field within a complex organisation.

Strong SQL skills and confidence with Power BI (or equivalent BI tooling); familiarity with modern analytics tools such as Python or R is a real advantage.

A sound understanding of data governance good practice (for example, DAMA DMBOK or an equivalent framework).

Excellent communication and stakeholder skills — the ability to translate complex data into decisions non‑technical audiences can trust and use.

An affinity for the education context. Knowledge of the FE/sixth‑form sector, ILR, DfE funding and statutory data returns is welcome, but not essential — we will support the right person to build sector knowledge.
