Job Role
We are seeking a Teaching & Learning Mentor to support and inspire teaching excellence across the Construction faculty. The role involves designing, developing, and delivering engaging staff development opportunities for teaching staff and support assistants, contributing to the review, moderation and delivery of the lesson observation scheme, and carrying out classroom observations that may be subject to external validation. You will collaborate with other professionals to identify staff development needs, remove barriers to effective teaching and learning, and implement targeted mentoring and action plans. A key focus is promoting high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- To design, develop and deliver creative staff development opportunities for college teaching staff and support assistants.
- To plan and deliver classroom observations, which could be subject to external validation.
- To facilitate the development of Technology Enhanced Learning strategies within course teams.
- To identify staff development needs within specific curriculum teams and areas.
- To liaise with other professionals in order to devise and implement strategies for delivering high quality teaching, learning and assessment.

Qualifications
- To hold a relevant qualification at level 4 or above.
- To be a qualified Teacher or must be prepared to commence an appropriate teaching qualification on appointment to the post.
- Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent) or willing to work towards it.
Experience
- To have significant, successful, and current teaching experience.
- To have evidence of teaching strategies that consistently and effectively produces high student retention and achievement.
- Mentoring or coaching experience.
- Previous experience of supporting staff.
- Relevant experience in Construction.
- Relevant experience in teaching and learning.
Knowledge & Skills
Have recent knowledge and application of technology enhanced learning strategies.
Good oral and written communication skills with a capacity to manage challenging conversations and deal effectively with staff, students, parents, employers, and others.
To have excellent time management and organisational skills.
Ability to deal promptly and effectively with inappropriate behaviour in the classroom.
To be able to prepare written and visual teaching materials including the effective use of Information Learning Technology e.g., Virtual Learning Environment, PowerPoint supported by key software.
