Full job description

This busy purpose built Haematology/Oncology Unit is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate Deputy ward sister with good organisational and communication skills, to compliment the existing team .

Day-care Unit comprised of 14 chair treatment area, a private patient room, , and many clinic rooms. The day unit is very busy seeing approx 250 patients per week.

The unit’s activities include the administration of sact, supportive care, stem cell transplants and an integrated clinical trials unit. Training would be provided for chemotherapy administration.We have a full time post in the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit which operates shifts of 4 day a week from 8 to 18.

This role requires NMC Registration.
Base Locations: Royal Bournemouth Hospital

To provide psychological support to patients and their families.

To assist the sister / charge nurse to lead and manage the development of and the provision of a high quality nursing service and environment for the Haematology Oncology Day Unit Service.
To provide specialist nursing knowledge, expertise and advice, facilitating the provision of evidence based patient centred care pathways and packages.
Deputise and take charge of the given area regularly in the absence of the sister /charge nurse.
To establish a balance between clinical and managerial demands so as to maintain clinical credibility.
To maintain an established communication and professional working relationship between site and haematology and oncology at both Poole and The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
To actively seek to resolve arising concerns and complaints to support the patient experience and quality agenda and to support other members to do so.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

To support the ward sister in managing the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit and contribute to the development and promotion of the nursing service, ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care.
To participate in the development of patient pathways, policies and protocols, to enable changes in practice to be achieved, implemented, evaluated and disseminated.
To be involved in the development of the Haematology and Oncology Cancer Nursing Service, in collaboration with the MDT, to meet patient and service needs.
To build effective working relationships with the multidisciplinary teams within and across providers, to meet patient and service needs, acting as patient advocate and representing nursing views.
To provide, receive, interpret and communicate complex information with a range of health care personnel.
To ensure that all LERNs are investigated in a timely manner and in accordance with Trust policy and to escalate appropriately incidents following investigation of complaints or LERNs.
To ensure all staff are provided with individual and team feedback on reported incidents and the actions take and to disseminate widely any learning points to the whole team.
