Job Summary

We are seeking an energetic and dedicated Play Leader to inspire and supervise children during playtime activities. In this role, you will create a safe, engaging, and fun environment that encourages children’s social, emotional, and physical development. Your enthusiasm and leadership will help foster positive interactions, promote creativity, and ensure every child feels valued and supported. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children’s lives while developing your skills in childcare, teaching, and leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesActivity Planning

Plan, organise and deliver age‑appropriate and engaging activities for children .
Prepare resources and ensure activity areas are set up safely.
Adapt activities to meet individual needs, interests and abilities.

Supervision & Child Wellbeing

Provide active supervision and care throughout all sessions, ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing at all times .
Support positive behaviour using calm, consistent approaches.
Respond appropriately to children’s emotional, social and physical needs.

Administration & Organisation

Manage daily routines including attendance records, registers and transitions from school to club .
Maintain accurate documentation in line with club policies.
Ensure smooth handovers with school staff and parents/carers.

Collaboration & Teamwork

Work closely with school staff and volunteers to create a cohesive, supportive environment for children .
Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure consistent practice.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety

Follow all safeguarding procedures and maintain professional boundaries.
Conduct regular health and safety checks and maintain accurate records .
Report concerns, incidents or accidents promptly and appropriately.

Personal Qualities

Warm, positive and child‑centred approach.
Reliable, organised and confident in managing routines.
Creative, enthusiastic and able to engage children in varied activities.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Essential Requirements

Experience working with children in a play, childcare or school setting.
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
Ability to plan and deliver structured and free‑play activities.
Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive environment.

Desirable Requirements

Relevant childcare/playwork qualification (SVQ, NC, HNC, Level 2/3).
First Aid training.
Experience supporting children with additional needs.

Pay: £15.00-£18.15 per hour

Expected hours: 23.0 per week

Work Location: In person
