Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to spearhead the architectural design and development of our core backend systems. In this role, you will take full ownership of designing robust, high-throughput microservices, ensuring exceptional performance, scalability, and data integrity.

As a senior engineer in our nimble, high-efficiency team, you will have a direct impact on our technical direction. You will balance technical rigour with business agility, taking features entirely from initial design to production deployment

Duties

Agile Development: Work as a Software Developer within a cross-functional, Agile team to deliver high-quality software iterations.
API & Architecture: Design and develop robust, scalable RESTful web services, implementing CQRS (Command Query Responsibility Segregation) and Event Sourcing frameworks.
Quality & Testing: Champion Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) practices; establish and enforce development quality control procedures through rigorous peer code reviews.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Support QA and DevOps pipelines to ensure smooth, continuous integration and deployment.
End-to-End Engineering: Play a key role in the software development lifecycle of core applications, spanning requirement gathering, architectural/framework design for external third-party integration, core coding, and integration testing.
Production Support: Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve critical Production 1 (P1) issues efficiently.
Standards & Compliance: Implement all software solutions in strict alignment with established organizational coding standards and industry best practices.
Leadership & Mentorship: Mentor and coach junior colleagues, assessing their performance and identifying individual needs for further training and professional growth.

Technical Skills

Advanced mastery of core Java (including concurrency, multithreading, and JVM tuning).
Deep expertise across the Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security).
Proven experience designing distributed systems using CQRS and Event Sourcing.
Strong proficiency in SQL, relational schema design, and high-volume JSON processing/validation.
Strict adherence to TDD/BDD concepts and writing isolated repository slice tests.
Strong familiarity with Git workflows and automated CI/CD deployment pipelines.

Skills & Qualifications Required

Professional Experience: 3+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of ownership in senior or lead backend developer roles.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
Environment: Experience thriving in fast-paced Agile/Scrum environments, managing code dependencies, and prioritising architectural health alongside feature delivery.

Pay: £54,800.00 per year

Work Location: In person
