Quality Engineer

Location: Stonehouse (with regular time at our Aston Down site) Hours: 08:00–16:30, Monday to Friday — full-time, on-site Type: Permanent

About Us

We design and manufacture high-end loudspeakers for the professional studio and hi-fi markets, alongside standalone electronics including pre-amplifiers, power amplifiers, and active amplifiers for our loudspeaker ranges. Everything is made in house — cabinets, electronics, loudspeaker drive units, and final assembly — to exacting standards for a discerning international customer base. Around 80% of our business is international, with the remaining 20% in the UK, and we work with both a UK and international supply chain.

Our products are high-end and low-volume, and much of what we build is judged as much on finish as it is on performance. We're looking for a hands-on Quality Engineer to help us hold that standard as we grow.

The Role

This is a broad, hands-on quality role covering goods-in, production, and after the product has left the building. You'll be the person who makes sure problems are caught early, documented properly, and actually fixed — not just logged and forgotten.

Goods-In & Incoming Inspection

Own and maintain up-to-date inspection processes and documentation for all incoming materials, components, and sub-assemblies from our UK and international supply chain
Ensure incoming inspection standards are clear, consistent, and actually followed
Build relationships with suppliers, including site visits where needed, to resolve recurring issues at source

Non-Conformance (NCR) Management

Take ownership of our existing NCR system and develop it into a more robust, effective process
Manage all NCRs raised on the production lines — investigate, document, and clearly action each one
Put in place preventative and corrective actions that actually stick, not just paperwork exercises
Work closely with production supervisors and managers to get genuine buy-in from the shop floor — this role is as much about culture as it is about process

Training & Continuous Improvement

Train employees on inspection standards, quality processes, and root-cause thinking
Drive a culture of continuous improvement across production, not just react to issues as they arise
Be visible and present on the production floor — this is not a desk-based or remote role

External Quality & Customer Support

Handle external NCRs raised by customers and international distributors
Provide direct support to customers and distributors on warranty, service, and repair issues
Act as a calm, capable point of contact when things go wrong, helping resolve issues efficiently and maintaining trust in our brand

Visual & Cosmetic Inspection

A large proportion of our quality issues relate to cosmetic finish on cabinets and metalwork
Carry out and oversee rigorous visual inspection, applying the very high cosmetic standards our products demand

About You

Minimum 10 years' experience in a quality engineering role within a manufacturing environment — we're looking for the judgement and workplace experience that comes with real time served
A relevant engineering education, apprenticeship, or formal training background (mechanical, manufacturing, electronics, or similar) — this matters more to us than direct sector experience
No background in audio manufacturing is required — we know genuinely experienced audio quality engineers are rare in the UK, and we'd rather find the right person and bring them up to speed on our products
Proven, practical experience with NCR systems, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventative action processes (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys, or similar structured problem-solving)
Relevant quality qualifications and certifications (e.g. recognised quality engineering qualifications, internal auditor training, Six Sigma/Lean training or equivalent) and a track record of applying them practically
A confident, credible communicator — comfortable talking to production operators, suppliers, and customers alike, and adjusting your approach accordingly
A genuinely hands-on, practical approach — this role needs someone who will get out onto the production floor and get involved, not someone who manages from a distance or leans on theory
Strong eye for detail, particularly with cosmetic and visual inspection of finished components
Full UK driving licence, or ability to travel independently between our Stonehouse and Aston Down sites, and to visit suppliers as required

What We're Not Looking For

This role suits someone who wants to be part of the process and the solution, not someone looking to manage from above. We need a proactive quality engineer, not a quality manager or a theorist — someone ready to get their hands dirty, work alongside the team, and lead by doing.

Based mainly at our Stonehouse site, with regular time spent at Aston Down
Standard hours 08:00–16:30, Monday to Friday
This is a fully on-site role — remote or hybrid working is not available.
