Full job description

Main Purpose of the Role

The Farm Secondary Education Lead is responsible for leading and developing all secondary education delivered within the farm provision. The role provides educational leadership, ensuring that students receive a high-quality, engaging and meaningful learning experience through a practical, therapeutic and restorative approach.

The post holder will be responsible for curriculum planning, qualifications, assessment and quality assurance, ensuring students make good progress whilst maintaining high expectations for teaching, learning and behaviour. They will work closely with the wider leadership team to ensure the farm provision operates as an integral part of The River Bourne Edge Education Provision.

Key Responsibilities

Educational Leadership

Lead all secondary education delivered within the farm provision.
Provide day-to-day leadership for the farm education team.
Promote The River Bourne Edge ethos, values and restorative approach.
Develop engaging learning opportunities that meet individual student needs.
Ensure consistency in teaching and learning across all farm education groups.

Curriculum and Qualifications

Lead the planning, delivery and development of the farm curriculum.
Oversee all qualifications delivered within the farm provision, including Skills and Awards Group, ASDAN, AQA Unit Awards and any future accreditation.
Ensure schemes of learning remain relevant, engaging and meet students' individual needs.
Monitor qualification completion and achievement.
Ensure all evidence is accurately recorded and verified.

Teaching and Learning

Lead daily educational sessions on the farm.
Support students to engage positively in learning.
Differentiate learning to meet a wide range of SEND needs.
Develop practical learning experiences using the farm environment.
Promote independence, resilience and employability skills.

Assessment and Student Progress

Monitor individual student progress.
Track achievement against individual targets.
Complete assessments and educational reports when required.
Use assessment information to inform future planning.
Celebrate student achievement and success.

Quality Assurance

Maintain high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
Monitor the quality of educational provision.
Support internal verification and quality assurance processes.
Ensure qualifications are delivered in line with awarding body requirements.
Maintain accurate educational records.

Staff Leadership and Support

Provide guidance and support to the Farm Education Practitioner.
Work collaboratively with the Farm Education & Operations Coordinator to ensure educational activities are fully supported.
Share good practice across the wider education team.
Support staff development through coaching and mentoring where appropriate.

Behaviour and Wellbeing

Promote positive behaviour through restorative and relational practice.
Support students to develop emotional regulation and resilience.
Create a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
Build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.

Safeguarding

Promote a strong safeguarding culture across the farm provision.
Ensure safeguarding concerns are reported promptly in line with policy.
Maintain a safe learning environment for students, staff and visitors.
Ensure educational risk assessments are completed where required.

Working with Staff and Professionals

Work collaboratively with the wider leadership team to ensure consistency across all educational provisions.
Liaise with teaching staff, support staff and operational farm staff to ensure the smooth delivery of educational programmes.
Work positively with external professionals when required.
Contribute to staff meetings, reviews and whole-school development.

Professional Development

Take responsibility for maintaining and developing professional knowledge and skills.
Attend relevant training and professional development opportunities.
Keep up to date with curriculum developments, SEND practice and alternative education guidance.

General Responsibilities

Promote the vision and values of The River Bourne Edge.
Demonstrate professionalism at all times.
Contribute to the continued development of the organisation.
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the level of the post, as reasonably requested by the Head or Deputy Head of Education.

Pay: £26,000.00-£27,500.00 per year
