Own the website, from first conversation to launch
Childsey is looking for a talented Web Designer & Developer to take ownership of website projects from initial client brief through to design, build and launch.
We're a marketing growth agency working with ambitious businesses, bringing together strategy, digital marketing, creative, content, brand and web.
For many of our website projects, you'll be the person responsible for taking an idea from brief → structure → design → build → testing → launch.
You'll design it. You'll build it. You'll get it live.
Most projects will be relatively straightforward 5 to 10-page websites. For larger or more complex projects, you'll have the support of the wider Childsey team across strategy, content, SEO, creative and marketing.
What you'll be doing
You'll work directly with clients to understand what they need and turn that into websites that look great, work well and make commercial sense.
You'll be responsible for:
- Joining client discovery and briefing meetings.
- Planning site structures, page layouts and user journeys.
- Creating wireframes and polished designs using Figma or similar tools.
- Building responsive websites using Webflow and other no-code or low-code platforms.
- Working with Framer, Shopify and other platforms where appropriate.
- Creating reusable components and CMS structures.
- Building across desktop, tablet and mobile.
- Adding interactions and animations where appropriate.
- Working with our SEO and marketing teams to make sure sites are built around performance as well as aesthetics.
- Handling common website functionality, forms and integrations.
- Testing and QA before launch.
- Presenting work to clients and managing feedback.
- Taking smaller website projects through to completion.
- Supporting existing clients with landing pages, website improvements and ongoing optimisation.
Most importantly, you'll take ownership.
We don't expect you to know everything from day one. We do want someone who is comfortable being given a problem, working out what needs to happen and taking responsibility for getting it done.
Who we're looking for
We're deliberately open on background.
You could be a Junior or Web Designer looking for more responsibility, a Webflow Designer or Developer, a Digital Designer who wants to become more technical, or someone who's spent time freelancing or running a small web or design business.
We're more interested in the quality of your work, how you think and your potential than the exact title on your CV.
You'll ideally have:
- A strong eye for digital design.
- A portfolio showing websites or digital work you've designed.
- Good Figma skills or experience with an equivalent tool.
- Some experience building websites using Webflow, Framer, Shopify, WordPress or a similar platform.
- A good understanding of responsive web design.
- Strong attention to detail.
- The confidence to communicate directly with clients.
- The ability to organise your workload and keep projects moving.
- A willingness to learn and develop technically.
You don't need to be a traditional developer
This isn't a software engineering role.
You don't need to spend all day writing JavaScript or have a Computer Science degree. Our approach increasingly uses platforms such as Webflow and Framer to create high-quality websites efficiently.
Knowledge of HTML and CSS is useful, and the ability to work with some custom code is a bonus.
If you're a strong designer with the right technical mindset, we're happy to help you develop the build side of your skillset.
Experience with CMS platforms, animations, analytics, SEO, accessibility, integrations, domains and DNS would all be useful, but none are essential.
What success looks like
Our aim is to get you to the point where you can confidently take a straightforward website through most of the journey from client brief to launch.
That means:
Talk to the client.
Understand the problem.
Design the solution.
Build it.
Test it.
Get it live.
Over time, you'll also help improve how Childsey delivers websites, including our components, processes, tools and standards.
Why Childsey?
You'll get genuine ownership of your work and the opportunity to see projects all the way through rather than working on one small part of the process.
You'll also have a wider marketing team around you, with expertise across strategy, design, content, SEO, paid media and digital marketing.
It's an opportunity to broaden your skills, take on more responsibility and play an important role in developing Childsey's web offering.
