RMi Engineering Ltd is a specialist engineering company operating across the renewables, marine and rail sectors.
From our Wattisham engineering facility, we undertake a diverse range of fabrication, welding, repair and bespoke engineering projects for clients operating within demanding and safety-critical industries.
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Project Manager to join our Wattisham-based team and take responsibility for the delivery of engineering and fabrication projects.
The role
The Engineering Project Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and development of RMi’s Wattisham engineering department.
You will manage engineering and fabrication projects from quotation and planning through to manufacture, inspection, delivery and commercial close-out.
Working closely with the Working Foreman, workshop team, suppliers, clients and senior management, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standard.
You will also help grow the department by developing client relationships, identifying new opportunities and improving its capabilities and processes.
Key responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day management, performance and development of the Wattisham engineering department.
- Manage engineering and fabrication projects from initial enquiry through to delivery and commercial close-out.
- Prepare and support quotations, tenders and commercial proposals.
- Review client enquiries, drawings, specifications and technical requirements.
- Define and manage project scope, deliverables, responsibilities and timescales.
- Work closely with the Working Foreman to coordinate labour, equipment, materials and workshop resources.
- Manage engineering, fabrication, welding, machining, inspection and subcontracted activities.
- Monitor project progress, costs, quality and commercial performance.
- Coordinate purchasing, material certification, subcontractors and supplier deliveries.
- Manage client communications and develop strong, long-term relationships.
- Identify new clients, projects and opportunities to grow the department.
- Identify and manage project risks, technical queries, variations and changes in scope.
- Ensure drawings, job packs, inspection plans and manufacturing records are properly controlled.
- Coordinate inspection, NDT, load testing and project certification where required.
- Ensure all activities comply with RMi’s quality, health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Improve departmental systems, processes, capabilities and working practices.
- Maintain an organised, safe and professional workshop environment.
About you
You will be an organised, commercially aware and solutions-focused Project Manager who is comfortable working in a fast-moving operational environment.
You should be able to manage several projects simultaneously while maintaining control of safety, quality, cost, programme, resources and client expectations.
Essential experience and attributes
· Previous experience managing engineering, fabrication or manufacturing projects.
· A sound understanding of fabrication, welding and mechanical engineering activities.
· Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and client requirements.
· Demonstrable experience managing project scope, programme, cost, quality, risk and resources.
· Strong commercial awareness, including quotations, purchasing, budgets and variations.
· Experience coordinating workshop personnel, suppliers and subcontractors.
· The ability to lead a department, manage performance and provide clear direction to the team.
· Experience developing client relationships and identifying new business opportunities.
· Excellent organisational and planning skills.
· Confident communicating with clients, engineers, technicians and senior management.
· Strong attention to detail and document-control skills.
· Able to identify problems and develop practical solutions.
· Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Capable of working independently while contributing to the wider management team.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- Engineering, manufacturing or project-management experience.
- Experience within a coded-welding or regulated fabrication environment.
- Knowledge of EN 1090, welding quality requirements or relevant manufacturing standards.
- Familiarity with material certification, welding procedures, inspection and NDT.
- Experience managing bespoke or low-volume engineering projects.
- Experience using CAD drawings, ERP, project-planning or job-costing systems.
Working arrangements
This role will be based full time at RMi’s engineering’s Wattisham facility.
The Project Manager will work closely with the workshop team and will need to maintain a regular presence within the facility. Occasional travel to client sites, supplier facilities or project locations may be required.
