About the role

Are you an experienced higher education professional looking to contribute to the management of a vibrant postgraduate research community, and develop your career at a world-leading university?

The Department of Physics is seeking to appoint a Postgraduate Education Manager (Research) to lead the delivery of high-quality administrative support for PhD provision, overseeing the full postgraduate research student lifecycle. The role will work strategically with senior leadership to develop and implement policies, process improvements, and new initiatives, whilst collaborating closely with the Postgraduate Administrators to ensure excellence in delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to work with students and a range of academic and professional services colleagues and play a pivotal role in shaping an outstanding student research environment at one of the world's most prestigious institutions.

What you would be doing

You will be responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of high-quality administrative support for PhD provision in the Department of Physics, overseeing the full postgraduate research student lifecycle from enquiry through to graduation.

You will be driving improvements to policies and processes and advising colleagues and students on PhD regulations. You will be maintaining robust data records, ensuring compliance with GDPR and external reporting requirements, and preparing reports to inform strategic decision-making. You will also be managing marketing campaigns, overseeing stakeholder communications, monitoring budgets, and ensuring the health and safety responsibilities of all PGR staff and students are effectively upheld. You will also be responsible for line management of the PGR Administrator(s).

What we are looking for

Experience in a busy Higher Education office environment
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
Ability to build effective working relationships with staff and students
Experience of skill transfer and mentorship of junior colleagues
Ability to take initiative, and work collaboratively as part of a team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organisational skills, with experience managing multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
A flexible, proactive approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
Experience using Microsoft 365 suite and relational database(s), including for data analysis
