Full job description

The Opportunity
Join a respected groundworks contractor delivering major schemes across the South West and into South Wales. Based in Gloucester, you'll set and uphold best-in-class safety standards across live sites stretching from Gloucester to Somerset and Swindon to Cardiff. Over the next 14 months you'll shadow our current Head of Health & Safety-preparing to succeed them in leading the department.

The Role

Oversee health, safety, and environmental management on all groundworks projects
Collaborate with main contractors and project teams to ensure full compliance with HSE legislation
Conduct site audits, inspections, and incident investigations
Lead the development and implementation of risk assessments, method statements, and site safety plans
Promote a proactive safety culture by delivering training, guidance, and support to site teams
Report on safety performance and continuous improvement initiatives to senior management / directors
Shadow the current Head of Health & Safety over a 14-month period, with a clear path to succeeding them

About You

Proven experience as a Health & Safety Manager in groundworks, civil engineering, or construction
In-depth knowledge of CDM regulations, HSE standards, and industry best practices
Comfortable liaising with main contractors and client stakeholders
NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (or equivalent) required
Proactive, approachable, and confident influencing teams on site
