Full job description

Luton Roma Trust is a charity that supports the Roma community in Luton and surrounding areas to live healthier, more confident, and more empowered lives, while strengthening pride in their Roma identity and culture.

The Finance Officer will be responsible for the effective day-to-day financial management of the charity, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with organisational policies and funding requirements. H/She will manage the charity’s accounting system using QuickBooks, process financial transactions, monitor income and expenditure, reconcile bank accounts, and maintain up-to-date financial records. H/She will prepare regular financial reports for the Charity Manager and Board of Trustees, track project and organisational budgets, support financial forecasting and cash flow planning, and ensure spending remains within approved budgets. The Finance Officer will also assist with the preparation of annual accounts, audits, and grant financial reporting, while contributing to the charity's overall financial sustainability and good governance.

The successful candidate will be confident in preparing financial reports, monitoring expenditure, supporting forecasting, and ensuring accurate and timely financial information is available to support decision-making. H/She will have a good understanding of financial procedures, budgeting, reporting, and financial record-keeping, with experience using QuickBooks as an accountant software.

Job Title: Finance Officer

Reports To: Charity Manager, Board of Trustees

Location: Luton

Working Arrangements: On Site

Contract: Fixed term, three years

Salary: £16/hour

Hours: 20 hours/week (part-time)

Proposed start date: October 2026

A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a finance, accounting, or bookkeeping role, with experience in managing financial records, preparing reports, monitoring budgets, and supporting financial planning.
Experience using QuickBooks accounting software
Experience managing finances for grant-funded projects and preparing financial reports for funders.
Knowledge of charity finance regulations, including the difference between restricted and unrestricted funds.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate and organised financial records.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

Experience working within the charity, voluntary, or not-for-profit sector.
Experience supporting audits and preparing information for external accountants.
Understanding of charity governance requirements and financial compliance.
Experience working with a Board of Trustees or senior management team to provide financial updates and advice.
Ability to identify opportunities to improve financial processes and systems.
Knowledge and understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
