Full job description

Job Title: Linen Porter

Employer: SYNERGYLMS

Site: West Suffolk Hospital

Two-shift pattern open:

Monday to Saturday, 30 Hours, 5 Hours a day, 6 days a week
Sunday to Friday, 30 Hours, 5 Hours a day, 6 days a week.

JOB PURPOSE

You will be required to assist in providing an efficient linen service in a busy environment. To prepare, deliver and collect the linen and laundry in line with the contractual services on a day-to-day basis.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to carry out a variety of duties including:

COMMUNICATION & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal to Synergy: Account Manager, Linen Services Manager, Linen Room Supervisor, Production Manager, Trainer, Employees of the company

External: Visitors, Health Service staff

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To assist in providing an effective and efficient customer liaison service so that all Synergy customers receive a quality service.

2. Ensure that effective communications are maintained between customers and Synergy personnel and that prompt action is taken for service requests or complaints.

3. Co-ordinate deliveries and collections from wards.

4. Ensure that company policies and procedures are maintained, particularly compliance with the required Health and Safety procedures and guidelines.

5. Transfer linen from laundry cages, trolleys to shelves.

6. Record information on linen stocks.

7. To take a flexible approach to work within the laundry service.

8. To participate in staff development and training initiatives.

9. To safely operate and monitor machines and equipment (master mover effectively and efficiently.

10. To act responsibly when manoeuvring cages with linen and be aware of the general public.

11. To undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably required.

HEALTH AND SAFETY/RISK MANAGEMENT

The jobholder will comply with the Health and Safety At Work Act 1974 and other supplementary legislation and is required to take reasonable care to avoid injury during the course of work and co-operate with the Trust’s and Company’s Health and Safety policy and statutory regulations.

To use in a proper safe manner the equipment and facilities provided.

To refrain from wilful misuse of, or interference with, anything provided in the interest of health and safety and any action, which might endanger yourself and others.

To report as soon as practical accidents, hazards and untoward incidents and to ensure that accident forms are completed.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort

· To adhere to the Company Manual Handling policy and procedure in executing the safe transfer of linen and laundry items around the Trust. This will require moving heavy weights manually and using trolleys/cages on a regular basis.

Mental Effort

· To be able to maintain concentration where the work pattern is predictable for example, maintaining high standards of accuracy when checking the contents of customer requirements.

Emotional Effort

· Exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances is occasional

Working Conditions

· The post entails occasional exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions in that indirect exposure to body fluids is implicit in the role.

· Qualifications

· Educated to a good general standard, with demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities.

· Training

· Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development and training

· H&S Awareness

· Manual Handling

Experience

· Previous experience in laundry services or other service related industry.

· Knowledge & Skills

· Ability to carry out instructions accurately.

· Ability to follow procedures.

· Ability to learn and understand the instruments and trays

· Basic end user IT skills in order to operate linen stock management systems.

Position subject to satisfactory DBS check
