London Fire Brigade (LFB) is London’s fire and rescue service – one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. We are here to make London a safer city. Employing over 5000 people across our operational team (our firefighters), control (our call handlers who answer 999 calls), fire safety and our non-operational team (our team who work behind the scenes to support our front-line services, which includes Fleet, IT, HR, Finance, Procurement, Communications team and many more).

Role and responsibilities

We are looking for a proactive, well organised individual who is confident working in a fast paced environment and able to manage competing priorities effectively. You will be comfortable using IT systems, including Microsoft 365 and Power BI, and maintaining accurate records, systems and processes. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential, along with experience in preparing agendas, taking clear and accurate notes, and producing meeting records to support Area management and operational teams. This role requires regular attendance at Lewisham and flexibility to travel to different locations across the Area to meet operational and administrative needs. You will provide vital support to the Area Management team, Borough Commanders and station based staff, ensuring effective area support and compliance with Brigade policies.

Based primarily at Lewisham. This permanent role is key to delivering efficient, high quality administrative and data support to a busy operational Area.

Assessment Overview

Stage 1

1. Experience of writing correspondence, minutes and short reports in plain English, using correct grammar, spelling and appropriate vocabulary.
2. Experience of performing arithmetical calculations; checking claims and invoices, detecting errors and making corrections and producing simple statistics.
3. Experience of organising, planning and prioritising own work; meeting deadlines and targets while working flexibly within a team.
4. Experience of using standard computerised office systems and specialised computer databases together with an understanding of their role in an office environment.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a Standard criminal records check.
