Chartered Rural Surveyor (Fixed Term Contract)

Exeter

£56,253.61 Per annum

37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9-5 (With flexible working hours)

South West Norse is part of the Norse Group, a national, award-winning property consultancy. Our highly regarded Estate Management & Valuation Department provides professional and consultancy services for a number of local authority’s and public sector organisations across the South West Peninsula. We have a strong and varied forward order book and offer local delivery supported by national capability.

South West Norse adopts modern working practices. We have a refreshed and modern open plan office on the outskirts of Exeter with very good access off the M5 corridor making for an easy commute. Equally we employ an agile and flexible working strategy allowing staff to work some days at home and flex their working patterns to accommodate such things as your children’s sports days!

The role:

We are currently recruiting for a Temporary Chartered Rural Surveyor to cover a period of maternity leave. The role will be based in our Exeter office.

The team primarily manage the successful Devon County Farms Estate – a c.9,500 acre Estate comprising of 64 residential equipped farms let to entrepreneurial new entrants into farming. The Estate is continuously evolving and adapting to industry pressures and economic drivers.

You’ll enjoy a genuinely varied workload across our estate, where many entrepreneurial and award winning tenants have diversified into exciting and unique enterprises. No two days will look the same: you’ll be out on farms meeting tenants, shaping new lettings, and working with colleagues to move repairs and maintenance issues forward. You will also have the chance to be involved with biodiversity and environmental projects underway across the Estate; and working with the wider Estates team you will have the chance to work on negotiated and compulsory purchase highway acquisition schemes for the local acquiring authority.

We are looking for a creative thinker who will help deliver greater economic, social and environmental benefits from this valuable Estate whilst at all times supporting and nurturing some of the very best new entrants to the farming sector. The altruistic sense of achievement gained from being part of an amazing system which probably supports more new entrants into farming than any other sector is intoxicating and second to none.

Our Successful Candidate:

We are ideally looking for a motivated, driven and inspirational Rural Surveyor with significant private or public sector rural estate management experience.

You will need excellent communication skills coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with our clients and Estate tenants.

Whilst we are ideally looking for a full time Chartered Rural Surveyor, we would consider applications form candidates who can only work part time.

You will ideally have the following qualifications and experience:

Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV)
Professional Chartered Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS or FRICS).
RICS Registered Valuer
At least 5 years PQE in similar role in either the private or public sector
Knowledge of the Agricultural Holdings Act 1986, Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995 and Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 legislation is required
Degree (or equivalent) in a rural estate management related subject would be an advantage, or relevant commercial experience
