JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, and motivated Area Development Officer to deliver high-quality PE, school sport, and football programmes across our network of partner schools and community venues across North West Essex
This is a delivery-focused role centred around planning and delivering engaging PE lessons, after-school clubs, lunchtime activities, football coaching sessions, and holiday provision that inspire children and young people to develop their skills, confidence, and enjoyment of physical activity.
Working closely with schools, pupils, parents, coaches, and the Area Development Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring all sessions are safe, inclusive, and aligned with both the Primary PE National Curriculum and the M.R.F.A. coaching philosophy. The role will support the physical, social, and personal development of participants while promoting positive attitudes towards sport, physical activity, and healthy lifestyles.
Alongside school-based delivery, the Area Development Officer will provide on-site quality assurance support across three Football Development Centres, helping to maintain coaching standards, monitor player development, support participant retention, and ensure a positive experience for players and parents.
The ideal candidate will have experience delivering PE and sports coaching within school or community settings, excellent communication and organisational skills, and a genuine passion for developing children and young people through sport. They will be a positive role model who is committed to delivering outstanding experiences and upholding the values and standards of M.R.F.A.
Key Responsibilities
PE & School Sport Delivery
- Plan and deliver high-quality PE lessons within partner primary schools.
- Deliver inclusive and engaging sessions aligned with the Primary PE National Curriculum.
- Deliver after-school clubs, lunchtime activities, enrichment provision, and physical activity programmes.
- Promote physical literacy, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, confidence, and positive participation through sport.
- Adapt delivery to meet the needs of different ages, abilities, and learning styles.
- Build strong working relationships with school staff and PE leads.
- Represent M.R.F.A. & Primary Education professionally during all school-based delivery and partnership activities.
Football Coaching Delivery
- Plan and deliver high-quality football coaching sessions for players of varying ages and abilities.
- Deliver engaging and development-focused sessions aligned with the M.R.F.A. coaching syllabus.
- Support the technical, tactical, physical, psychological, and social development of players.
- Adapt coaching sessions to suit different abilities, age groups, and learning styles.
- Support player development pathways and progression opportunities to sister companies where appropriate.
Football Development Centre Quality Assurance
- Support the delivery and quality assurance of three designated M.R.F.A. Football Development Centres.
- Ensure all sessions are delivered to M.R.F.A. coaching, safeguarding, and customer service standards.
- Monitor attendance, participant engagement, and overall session quality.
- Support coaches in delivering engaging and development-focused sessions.
- Assist with the completion and quality control of Player Report Cards and player development feedback.
- Ensure equipment, facilities, and resources are prepared and maintained to a high standard.
- Build positive relationships with players and parents within the development centre environment.
- Escalate any staffing, safeguarding, welfare, or operational concerns to the Area Development Manager.
- Support player retention and progression through positive participant experiences.
Player Development & Participant Experience
- Support the ongoing development and progression of players across M.R.F.A. programmes.
- Encourage positive behaviour, effort, and commitment from participants.
- Provide constructive feedback to players to support their development.
- Promote M.R.F.A. values, standards, and expectations.
- Help create an environment where all participants feel welcome, supported, and motivated.
Holiday Camps & Events
- Serve as camp lead managing daily camp operations, including staffing, schedules, resources, and participant welfare.
- Deliver engaging, safe, and age-appropriate activities throughout holiday programmes.
- Support participant recruitment and customer engagement initiatives.
- Assist with tournaments, festivals, and community events where required.
- Ensure all holiday provision operates in line with safeguarding, health & safety, and organisational procedures.
Administration & Communication
- Complete all administration linked to delivery programmes and participant records - primarily session maintaining accurate attendance registers
- Ensure timely and professional communication with parents, schools, and colleagues.
- Support the Area Development Manager by providing attendance, participation, and programme information where required.
- Maintain accurate organisational records and systems in line with M.R.F.A. procedures.
Programme Growth & Community Engagement
- Support recruitment events, taster sessions, promotional activities, and community initiatives.
- Assist with participant retention and engagement activities.
- Promote M.R.F.A. programmes positively within schools and the local community.
- Support the successful launch of new programmes where required.
- Represent M.R.F.A. positively at events and external activities.
Safeguarding, Welfare & Health & Safety
- Ensure all activities are delivered in line with safeguarding, health & safety, and risk assessment procedures.
- Follow M.R.F.A. safeguarding policies and reporting procedures at all times.
- Act appropriately and professionally on any safeguarding or welfare concerns.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and positive behaviour across all programmes.
- Act as a positive role model and uphold the professional standards of M.R.F.A.
Person Specification Essential
- Experience delivering PE within school or community settings.
- Experience working with children and young people in a sports environment.
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
- Strong organisation and time-management skills.
- Understanding of child-centred coaching and player development.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
- Willingness to work 3 evenings per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and occasional weekends.
- FA Coaching Qualification (Introduction to Coaching Football minimum or equivalent).
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
Desirable
- Experience managing football development centres or community sports provision.
- Experience delivering PE within primary school settings.
- Experience managing staffing rotas and operational delivery.
- Experience managing finance administration or subscription systems.
- Experience leading holiday camps, tournaments, or events.
- Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) qualification.
- FA Safeguarding Children qualification.
- Degree or qualification in Sports Coaching, PE, Sports Development, or a related field.
