Company Overview
Dehum is the UK’s leading specialist in industrial dehumidification and humidity control engineering. Based in Glossop, Derbyshire, we design, manufacture, install, upgrade and maintain bespoke air handling and environmental control systems for clients across the UK and internationally.
Our engineered solutions support a wide range of sectors, including aerospace, automotive, food production, pharmaceuticals, defence, advanced manufacturing and many more. We help organisations protect assets, improve product quality, increase process reliability, and reduce energy consumption through carefully designed and expertly delivered humidity control systems.
With 3 decades of technical expertise and a strong reputation for engineering excellence, Dehum continues to grow through innovation, quality, and long-term client partnerships. We are committed to creating controlled environments that enable our customers’ operations to perform at their best.
As the business continues to grow, we are expanding our field engineering team and are open to candidates at all levels of experience.
Role Overview
We are looking for Field Service Engineers to support both our Service and Projects teams.
This could suit:
- A junior engineer looking to develop a career in field service engineering.
- Someone with practical mechanical or electrical engineering experience who wants to move into a field-based position.
- An experienced Field Service Engineer looking for greater variety and responsibility.
- An experienced engineer from HVAC, air handling, manufacturing, maintenance or another related engineering environment.
You do not need previous dehumidification experience. We can provide training on our equipment and systems.
The role involves travelling to customer sites throughout the UK to install, commission, service, maintain and fault-find industrial equipment.
Depending on your experience, you may initially work alongside our existing engineers before gradually taking responsibility for your own jobs and customer sites.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will develop depending on your level of experience and may include:
- Supporting the installation and commissioning of dehumidification and air handling equipment.
- Carrying out planned servicing and preventative maintenance.
- Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
- Completing repairs and remedial works.
- Supporting larger installation and project work.
- Working alongside project managers, design engineers and other field engineers.
- Completing accurate service reports and job documentation.
- Communicating findings and recommendations back to the office.
- Representing Dehum professionally while working on customer sites.
- Building positive working relationships with customers.
- Taking increasing ownership of jobs as your experience develops.
What We're Looking For
We are more interested in finding the right person with the right attitude than somebody who ticks every technical box.
Ideally, you will have:
- Some practical engineering experience.
- Mechanical, electrical or general engineering knowledge.
- Experience working on customer, industrial or commercial sites.
- A professional and customer-focused approach.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the UK.
- Flexibility to stay away from home when required.
Approximately 50% of the role may involve travel and overnight stays, depending on workload and project requirements.
Previous experience within field service, HVAC, air handling, dehumidification, electrical engineering, mechanical maintenance or industrial equipment would be beneficial, but is not essential for junior applicants.
What Good Looks Like
The people who perform well within our field engineering team tend to be:
- Self-motivated.
- Clean, tidy and organised in how they work.
- Comfortable taking responsibility for their own workload.
- Thorough and highly attentive to detail.
- Professional when dealing with customers.
- Practical problem solvers.
- Willing to ask questions and learn.
- Flexible when schedules or site requirements change.
- Comfortable working independently once trained.
Early Signs of Success
During your first few months, we would expect to see that you:
- Take a proactive approach to training and development.
- Ask questions and actively build your technical knowledge.
- Can organise yourself, your equipment and your workload.
- Produce thorough and accurate work.
- Communicate professionally with customers and colleagues.
- Take responsibility for completing jobs properly.
- Gradually become more confident working independently.
For junior engineers, success will be measured by your development and willingness to learn rather than expecting you to know everything from day one.
The Challenging Parts
We want to be upfront about the realities of field service engineering.
The role can involve:
- Regular travel around the UK.
- Working away from home and staying overnight.
- Learning a wide range of unfamiliar systems, particularly if you are joining at junior level.
- Diagnosing faults where the answer is not immediately obvious.
- Working independently at customer sites.
- Adapting when reactive jobs or customer requirements affect the schedule.
For the right person, these are also some of the things that make the role interesting. No two weeks are necessarily the same.
Location
Because we are recruiting across different experience levels, location requirements vary.
Junior / Developing Engineers
Junior engineers should ideally live within approximately 60 minutes of our Glossop office.
This allows you to regularly work alongside experienced engineers, attend training and spend time at our headquarters while developing your technical knowledge.
Experienced / Senior Engineers
For experienced Field Service Engineers who can work more independently, we are open to candidates based further away from our headquarters.
We are particularly interested in experienced engineers based across the Midlands and Birmingham area, or approximately within two hours of our Glossop office.
Working Pattern & Travel
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Flexible working week of up to approximately 48 hours, primarily Monday to Friday.
- Nationwide UK travel.
- Overnight stays when required.
- Approximately 50% travel depending on workload.
- Occasional reactive work.
- Opportunities to support both service and project activities.
Salary & Benefits
We recognise that candidates may be joining us at very different stages of their engineering careers.
Your package will therefore be based on your experience and existing technical capability.
Benefits include:
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Company vehicle.
- Personal use of the company vehicle, subject to company policy.
- Company pension scheme.
- 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Christmas party and company events.
- Technical training and development.
- Long-term career development within a growing specialist engineering business.
Training & Development
You will not simply be given a van and expected to figure everything out yourself.
New engineers will spend time shadowing and working alongside our existing engineering team.
As your knowledge and confidence develop, you will gradually be introduced to more complex work.
For junior engineers, this may include progressing from:
Shadowing → Assisting → Completing supervised tasks → Managing simpler jobs → Fault finding → Working independently
Experienced engineers will have a shorter onboarding period based on their existing capabilities, with training focused on Dehum equipment, systems and processes.
We want engineers who are interested in continuing to develop rather than remaining static in their role.
Career Opportunity
Because Dehum works across both service and projects, there is significant variety within the position and opportunities to develop your career as the company grows.
Depending on your strengths and interests, your development could include greater responsibility for:
- Field service.
- Fault finding and diagnostics.
- Commissioning.
- Installation and projects.
- Customer training.
- Technical support.
- Mentoring junior engineers.
- Senior engineering responsibilities.
Interview Process
Our recruitment process is designed to give both sides the opportunity to understand whether the role is the right fit.
Stage 1: Initial Screening Interview
An initial conversation with our Recruitment Manager to discuss your background, experience, location, travel expectations and what you are looking for from your next role.
Stage 2: Microsoft Teams Interview
A more detailed interview with our Head of Service to discuss the engineering role, your technical experience and how you approach field-based work.
Stage 3: Face-to-Face Interview
A final interview with the Managing Director and Head of Service to explore your experience, suitability, development opportunities and answer any remaining questions.

You do not need to have previous experience with dehumidification systems to apply.
If you have an engineering background, enjoy practical problem solving, are comfortable working with customers and are willing to travel, we would be interested in speaking with you.
Whether you are looking for your first field engineering opportunity or your next senior engineering position, we would encourage you to apply.
