The selection process for this role will be:
Stage 1: Online test
At this stage, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:
After submission of the first stage of your application (personal details), you will be invited to complete a Civil Service numerical and verbal reasoning test. If you successfully pass the test, you will be invited to complete the full application (please see stage 2: sift for further information).
Please complete the online tests as soon as possible (within 24-48 hours is recommended) to give yourself enough time to complete your full application (please see stage 2: sift for further information). Both the online test and the full application must be completed by the closing date on the advert, otherwise your application will be rejected.
Guidance for the tests will be available when you are invited to take the test. The tests are administered online and accessed via the CS Jobs website.
Stage 2: Sift
At sift, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:

Experience you will be asked to provide a CV (unlimited wordcount) and personal statement (1000-word count). Please provide evidence of your Experience of the following:

Experience in communicating complex financial issues to enable individuals with little financial knowledge to understand the key messages.

Experience of leading on financial planning and forecasting and providing challenge to assumptions.

Maintaining effective relationships to understand stakeholder/colleagues needs and priorities.

Experience reviewing business cases and/or submissions
Should a large number of applications be received, an initial sift may be conducted using the lead Success Profile element Behaviour Making Effective Decisions. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or progressed straight to assessment/interview.
The sift will take place week commencing 24th August 2026.
Stage 2: Interview
At interview stage, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:

You will also be required to create and deliver a presentation to asses the Behaviour Making Effective Decisions.
The interviews will take place week commencing 7th September 2026.
This interview will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams. Further details will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.

If your application is successful but you have been dismissed from the Civil Service, your application could be removed at the pre-employment checking stage depending on the nature of the dismissal.
Applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening, subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD). This check will provide information about employees who have been dismissed for fraud or dishonesty offences. This check also applies to employees who resign or otherwise leave before being dismissed for fraud or dishonesty had their employment continued. Any applicants details held on the IFD will be refused employment. A candidate is not eligible to apply for a role within the Civil Service if the application is made within a 5-year period following a dismissal for carrying out internal fraud against government.

Its not about judging your personality or lifestyle - its about checking for potential red flags that might affect the role or company culture.
