Build your career with IDM Energy
IDM Energy is looking for a practical and dependable General Maintenance Technician to join our growing Central Belt team.
We provide reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance and project services to businesses and organisations throughout Scotland. Our work covers electrical, plumbing, heating, joinery and general facilities maintenance, giving our clients one accountable team for their facilities and maintenance requirements.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys practical problem-solving and takes pride in doing a job properly. One day you could be carrying out planned water temperature checks, the next completing minor joinery repairs or working alongside our electricians, plumbers and joiners on a larger reactive or project job.
At IDM Energy, how we do the job matters just as much as getting it done. We value people who take ownership, work safely, communicate clearly and treat clients, colleagues and suppliers with respect. In plain terms: do good work, make sensible decisions and don’t leave the next person to discover a mystery leak—or an even more mysterious missing screwdriver.
The role
As a General Maintenance Technician, you’ll help deliver reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance and project works across a range of commercial properties and client sites.
You’ll complete general maintenance tasks independently while also working alongside our qualified tradespeople on larger or more specialist jobs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Completing reactive maintenance and minor repair works across commercial client sites
- Carrying out basic joinery repairs to doors, locks, ironmongery, shelving, fixtures and fittings
- Undertaking basic plumbing tasks, including minor leak repairs, replacing taps, wastes and sanitary fittings
- Completing painting, decorating, patch repairs and general finishing works
- Supporting joiners, electricians and plumbers on reactive, planned and project works
- Completing planned preventative maintenance tasks
- Carrying out monthly tap and water temperature checks
- Completing showerhead and hose descales
- Undertaking Legionella inspections and assessments where appropriately trained
- Accurately recording readings, findings, photographs and completed works
- Assisting with site surveys, measurements and condition reports
- Identifying additional defects or required works and reporting them promptly
- Communicating clearly with clients, colleagues and the office-based team
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety and workmanship
- Looking after the company vehicle, tools, equipment and materials
- Representing IDM Energy professionally while on site and on the road
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with broad practical maintenance skills and the right attitude—someone reliable, adaptable and willing to take ownership of their work.
You don’t need to be a qualified joiner, plumber and electrician rolled into one. We already have those. You do, however, need to be comfortable completing a range of general maintenance tasks and knowing when something needs to be passed to a specialist trade.
You’ll need:
- Previous experience in general, property, building or facilities maintenance
- Practical experience with basic joinery, plumbing and decorating tasks
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work safely and independently
- The ability to work effectively alongside qualified tradespeople
- Good communication and customer service skills
- A professional, reliable and proactive approach
- Confidence using a work phone and digital job-management systems
- Good attention to detail when completing job records and maintenance checks
- A valid UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel throughout the Central Belt and across Scotland when required
Previous experience with planned preventative maintenance, water hygiene, Legionella control or commercial maintenance contracts would be beneficial.
You’ll fit in well if you’re the kind of person who wants to do the job properly, supports the wider team and can be trusted to make sensible decisions while representing the company.
What we offer
Your skills and flexibility deserve a strong package in return. At IDM Energy, we offer:
- £27300.00 - £34000.00
- 37.5-hour standard working week
- Overtime paid at time and a half after 37.5 hours

- Company van and fuel card for work use
- Company mobile phone
- Company workwear and uniform
- 30 days’ annual leave
- Company pension scheme
- Private medical, dental and optical insurance upon succesful completion of probation period.
- Growth shares options
- A varied role working across multiple contracts, sites and projects
- A supportive team environment with opportunities to develop
