We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Lecturer in Construction Management to join our academic team.
Job Purpose:
To bring industry experience and professional knowledge into the delivery of Construction Management programmes, initially at level 4 (HNC) and level 5 (HND), supporting students from a range of backgrounds to achieve their educational and career goals. You will plan and deliver engaging, industry-relevant teaching in line with the requirements of awarding bodies such as Pearson, ensuring a strong focus on employability, practical application, and current construction practices. You will contribute to the development and delivery of a high-quality, student-focused curriculum, embedding real-world construction scenarios, project-based learning, and sector-specific skills.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To plan and deliver teaching across Construction Management programmes (e.g. HNC/HND), as allocated by the Course Coordinator or senior management
- To incorporate current industry practices, legislation (e.g. health & safety/CDM), and professional standards into teaching
- To contribute to the development, planning and continuous improvement of Construction Management curriculum
- To develop learning materials, schemes of work, and assessment plans aligned to awarding body requirements
- To assess student work, provide constructive feedback, and monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance
- To participate in internal verification (IQA) and quality assurance processes
- To support students in developing employability skills relevant to the construction and built environment sectors
- To provide academic and pastoral support to learners
- To engage with industry developments to ensure teaching remains current and relevant
- To participate in team meetings, standardisation activities, and staff development activities
- To maintain accurate records in line with centre and awarding body requirements
- To ensure compliance with health & safety and safeguarding policies
- To contribute to course reviews, self-assessment, and quality improvement planning
- To undertake any other duties appropriate to the role
Person specification:
1. Knowledge
- Strong understanding of Construction Management and the built environment sector
- Knowledge of construction processes, project management, health & safety, and industry regulations
- Understanding of vocational education and awarding body requirements (e.g. Pearson BTEC)
2. Skills
- Effective teaching and presentation skills
- Ability to relate theory to practical, real-world construction management scenarios
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to support and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds
- Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
3. Aptitude
- Ability to work collaboratively within a teaching team
- Commitment to student success and inclusive learning
- Ability to contribute to programme delivery and development
Qualifications:
- A relevant degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline (Essential)
- A Master’s degree in a relevant subject (Essential)
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, CertEd, or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training), or willingness to work towards one (Essential)
Knowledge and Experience:
- Industry experience in construction management (e.g. site management, project management, quantity surveying) (Essential)
- Experience teaching in further or higher education, or training environment (Desirable)
- Experience delivering or assessing vocational qualifications (e.g. BTEC HNC/HND) (Desirable)
- Experience of assessment and internal verification (Desirable)
