Full job description

To Work in the Portering Department at Conquest Hospital on a alternating shift pattern.

Monday to Sunday 0800-1600 and 1430-0000 on a alternating shift pattern

Will also be trained to work in the waste department to cover shifts as and when required

A Hospital Porter needs to demonstrate:
Sensitivity and understanding

Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations

The ability to work well under pressure

Thinking and reasoning skill

A Hospital Porter will:
Have good communication skills.

Be able to work well with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Be fit and have high levels of stamina.

Be able to work well under pressure.

Act calmly and quickly in emergencies.

Be able to follow instructions.

Respect patient confidentiality.

Deal sensitively with patients and visitors who are anxious, distressed or very unwell.

Have a flexible attitude to work.

Movement of patients, escort of patients and visitors.

Mortuary duties

Bodies to be transported to the mortuary as require

In the absence of the mortuary assistant to:
Arrange access to the mortuary for appropriate persons as directed.

It may be necessary to assist Ambulance crews and/or Contracted Funeral Director during admission.

Deliveries

To provide a collection and delivery service as required for internal specimens, theatre/x-ray lists.

Equipment, Furniture and Fittings

Patient related equipment to be clean and in good repair, defects to be reported to the Duty Team Leader.

Furniture and other equipment to be moved around the hospitals when and where required

Medical Gas

The delivery of empty/full cylinders as required. This will include manifold rooms and associated piped gas systems.

To attend to or report any defects with the medical gas supply as required.

Emergency Procedures

To attend the appropriate ward or department immediately with the appropriate equipment and assistance upon hearing the alarms for:

Cardiac arrest / Lucas Machine

Major incident, Hazchem and CBRN incidents

Traumas

Helicopter landing

Fire alarm

Patient Collapse
