The Opportunity
GOTO Events is one of the UK’s leading corporate events and team-building companies, delivering more than 1,700 events every year across the UK and Europe.
We work with organisations of all sizes, from growing businesses through to some of the world's best-known brands, delivering corporate events, team experiences and large-scale company events nationwide.
We are now looking for an experienced WordPress Website Developer with strong SEO expertise to join us for a dedicated three-month project.
This isn't a maintenance or update project.
You will be responsible for building and launching an entirely new website from the ground up for a dedicated service area of GOTO Events. The objective is to create a fast, modern, highly optimised website capable of competing with established competitors for some of the most valuable organic search positions within its market.
We aren't simply looking for someone who can build an attractive WordPress website. We need someone who understands how website architecture, technical SEO, content, UX, CRO and performance work together to generate rankings, traffic and enquiries.
You'll report directly to our Head of Marketing, working alongside and with support from our SEO and Website Manager.
For the right person, successful delivery of this project could lead to further website and digital projects across GOTO Events and our wider portfolio.
The Project
You will take ownership of the website build from initial planning through to launch.
The specific GOTO Events service and full commercial brief will be discussed during the interview process.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning the complete website structure, architecture and user journey.
- Building the new website from the ground up in WordPress.
- Creating a site architecture designed around both user experience and organic search performance.
- Working with the marketing team to undertake competitor, keyword and search-intent research.
- Developing an SEO-led structure for service, location, supporting and conversion pages.
- Ensuring the website is technically SEO compliant from the outset, rather than attempting to optimise it after it has been built.
- Implementing on-page SEO including headings, metadata, internal linking, schema and URL structures.
- Ensuring appropriate crawlability, indexation, canonicals, redirects and sitemap configuration.
- Building with site speed, Core Web Vitals and mobile performance firmly in mind.
- Creating intuitive navigation and strong internal linking architecture.
- Working with supplied content and contributing recommendations on how content should be structured and presented.
- Optimising content and website structure for traditional search, AI search and GEO.
- Applying strong UX and CRO principles throughout the site to maximise enquiries.
- Building and testing enquiry forms, calls-to-action and conversion journeys.
- Ensuring the website works effectively across desktop, tablet and mobile.
- Completing pre-launch technical SEO, functionality and quality checks.
- Managing the website through to a successful launch.
- Ensuring appropriate analytics, tracking and search monitoring are implemented.
- Monitoring initial performance following launch and making improvements where required.
What We're Looking For
This role requires someone with proven hands-on experience building WordPress websites with SEO at the centre of the build.
You should have:
- Strong, demonstrable WordPress development experience.
- Strong practical knowledge of technical SEO.
- Experience building websites specifically designed to perform competitively in organic search.
- A clear understanding of keyword research, search intent and SEO-led site architecture.
- Experience with on-page SEO, internal linking, schema and technical website optimisation.
- A strong understanding of Google Search Console, GA4 and SEO analysis tools.
- Knowledge of Core Web Vitals, page speed and website performance optimisation.
- Good understanding of modern AI search/GEO optimisation and how search behaviour is evolving.
- Strong UX and CRO knowledge, with an understanding of how to turn website traffic into genuine enquiries.
- The ability to take a project from concept and blank WordPress installation through to a polished, functioning and optimised live website.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work quickly without compromising quality.
- A proactive approach – we want someone who identifies opportunities and solutions rather than simply waiting for instructions.
- The confidence to challenge ideas where you believe there is a better approach.
A marketing or development degree is not required. We are far more interested in what you have actually built, the results you have achieved and what you can deliver.
Important – Please Read Before Applying
This is not a role for an agency.
It is also not a freelance or part-time development project to be fitted around other clients.
We are looking for one dedicated individual to join our team full-time for three months and work from our Poole office, taking ownership of this project alongside our internal marketing team.
The website is a significant project for the business, and we want the person building it working directly with the people responsible for its strategy, content, SEO and commercial performance.
What You'll Get
- Competitive salary dependent on experience.
- A dedicated three-month project with genuine ownership from concept to launch.
- The opportunity to create a completely new website rather than inherit somebody else's build.
- Direct access to our internal marketing and SEO team.
- On-site parking.
- Company social events.
- The opportunity for further projects following the initial three-month contract for the right candidate.
How to Apply
All applications must include a covering letter.
Your covering letter should explain:
- Why you believe you are the right person for this specific project.
- Your experience building WordPress websites from the ground up.
- Your practical SEO experience and how you incorporate SEO during a website build.
- Examples of websites you have personally built or played a significant role in developing.
- Where possible, examples of organic search results or ranking improvements achieved through your work.
- Your experience of UX, CRO, technical SEO and website performance.
- Why a dedicated three-month, office-based project with GOTO Events appeals to you.
Applications without a covering letter addressing the above points will not be considered.
We want to see evidence of what you've built and achieved – not simply a list of software you've used.
