Location: Thorp Arch, West Yorkshire
Salary: £30,000–£40,000 OTE (we'll pay properly for the right person)
Job Type: Full-time (42.5 hours/week)
The Role
Our clients include royalty, some of the most successful names in business & a Formula 1 World Champion.
They are not difficult to sell to. They are difficult to reach.
This role exists to solve that, and to make sure that when we do reach them, everything they find is immaculate.
Here's the rare part: the creative is already in hand. We've hired a Head of Creative to tell the story of how extraordinary our brand really is, so you get to do what most marketers only wish they could, amplify brilliant work rather than fight to get any, and spend your time on results instead of chasing decent content.
Retro Defenders builds one-of-a-kind classic Land Rovers by hand: Series, Defender and Range Rover Classic. Every donor vehicle is completely disassembled and rebuilt to each client's exact specification, over twelve to eighteen months, for an ultra-high-net-worth clientele all over the world. Our clients include a Formula 1 world champion, royalty, and many of the most successful names in business. They come to us because a Retro Defenders build is made to be kept and passed on. Legacy is Everything.
This is a role with room to grow into. You would be shaping how a rising luxury brand reaches the world, and the difference you make will be visible, in the audience, in the enquiries, and in where the brand goes next.
What You'll Own
- Growing our audience on social, and looking after it every day. Comments answered inside twenty-four hours, direct messages watched closely, and the daily engagement that puts us in front of accounts and communities we’re not reaching yet. This is the biggest part of the job. It is also where a surprising number of our enquiries actually begin, so nothing here slips.
- Analytics and reporting across every platform and our website. A weekly performance snapshot, a full report monthly, and the testing behind it. You are the person who tells us what is working, what isn’t, and what we should do more of.
- Our website, its upkeep, and a weekly blog to support SEO, with an outsourced SEO agency you’ll manage day to day.
- Email and newsletters to a small, high-value audience that deserves better than a template.
- Our reputation online. Watching what’s said about us across review platforms, forums and the enthusiast community, and flagging anything that matters.
- Paid campaigns where they earn their place. Mostly retargeting and putting our best film in front of the right interest groups. We are deliberately not a performance marketing business, so this is a tool in your hand rather than the centre of the job.
- Our marketing data. Kept accurate, lawful and secure, with every account and login properly documented and owned by the business.
What you’ll run alongside the Head of Creative
He sets the creative and brand direction. You take that work and make sure it lands.
- Scheduling and publishing his content across every platform, to his plan.
- Drafting the everyday captions and copy for his approval.
- Keeping the content calendar current.
- Producing the client build book and the handover pack for every finished car, to his content and direction. These are the documents an owner keeps for decades, so they have to be right.
- Managing our PR agency day to day and chasing the opportunities, while he shapes the stories we tell.
What We're Looking For
- Proven social media experience with a track record you can point to. Audiences you’ve grown, content you’ve put in front of the right people, and an understanding of why most content reaches nobody who matters. We’re not asking for the finished article, but this isn’t a first job either.
- Real analytical ability. You read the numbers, know what worked and why, and change what you do because of the.
- Website experience on any platform, comfortable making updates and keeping a site sharp.
- Experience of events, whether running them, being at them, or looking after guests at them.
- Exposure to PR, ideally having worked with or alongside an agency, and comfortable keeping a supplier honest.
- A confident writer who can hold someone else’s voice as well as their own.
- Organised and proactive, the kind of person who takes work off other people’s plates before being asked.
- A real eye for detail and a high standard, to match the cars.
- Discreet and professional. Our clients value their privacy, and some of them a great deal.
- A full UK driving licence, and a willingness to travel occasionally.
Desirable
- Experience with a premium, luxury or automotive brand.
- Experience of an international audience, particularly the Gulf, Europe or the United States.
- A working understanding of SEO and how content earns its ranking.
- An interest in classic cars, or the patience to fall for them.
Who you are
Beyond the skills, character matters to us just as much. We’re a small, highly passionate team with a unity we’ve worked hard for, and we want someone who’ll add to it: a fundamentally good person who takes real pride in making the people around them better, not just someone filling a role.
You should also want this shape of role. Our Head of Creative owns the brand and the storytelling, and he is very good. Your job is to make him effective, take weight off him, and own the measurable, operational side of marketing outright. For the right person that is a rare few years: working closely with someone excellent, on a brand most marketers never get near, with real responsibility from the start. If you’re looking to set brand direction yourself, this isn’t your role. If you want to learn properly while making an exceptional brand reach the people it deserves to reach, it very much is.
Perks & Benefits
- £30–40k OTE, and we'll pay properly for the right person.
- Genuine ownership of the audience, the numbers and the client-facing detail, working closely with a talented Head of Creative.
- The chance to help build a marketing function at a luxury brand on a serious trajectory.
- Training and development, and the chance to learn from a Head of Creative at the top of his craft
- Access to extraordinary cars, and being part of photoshoots in amazing locations.
- Workplace pension and life insurance.
- Bupa private health insurance for you, your partner and your children.
- 28 days' holiday plus your birthday off, rising by a day for every year of service.
- On-site parking and a relaxed dress code.
How To Apply
Send us your CV along with anything that shows your work: channels you've grown, campaigns you've run, results you're proud of. We care more about what you've actually done than a list of tools.
