We have an excellent career opportunity for the role of Domestic Assistant / Kitchen Assistant (with Kitchen Porter Relief Cover) to join our team here at Southern Healthcare at our amazing Parkwood House Nursing and residential Home based at address 72 Exmouth Rd, Stoke, Plymouth PL1 4QJ
Pay: From £12.80 per hour
Shift patterns: 7am - 3pm (or later shifts if this suits you better)
Hours: This role is working a minimum of 18 hours per week. Please note, this role is also working alternative weekends. Please also note, we can consider candidates who wish to work weekends only.
Responsibilities
The Domestic Assistant / Kitchen Assistant will primarily support the domestic services of Parkwood House Nursing & Residential Home, ensuring a clean, safe, welcoming, and comfortable environment for residents, visitors, and staff. The role will include supporting the kitchen team by providing Kitchen Porter relief cover during periods of annual leave or operational need.
The post holder will work in accordance with CQC standards, Health and Safety requirements, infection control procedures, company policies, and relevant legislation. They will demonstrate a flexible and supportive approach, adapting to the changing needs of the Home while maintaining high standards of care, cleanliness, and service.
Other key responsibilities:
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the Home, following infection control procedures and safe use of PPE.
- Complete daily cleaning duties across resident bedrooms, communal areas, bathrooms, and other facilities.
- Follow Health & Safety, COSHH, fire safety, and company policies at all times.
- Support the kitchen team when required, including Kitchen Porter duties, washing dishes, maintaining kitchen hygiene, and assisting with meal service.
- Help with stock deliveries, storage, and maintaining organised work areas.
- Report maintenance issues, equipment faults, or health and safety concerns promptly.
- Treat residents, visitors, and colleagues with kindness, dignity, and respect, helping to create a warm and welcoming environment.
- Work collaboratively as part of the wider team, complete mandatory training, and provide flexible support to ensure the smooth running of the Home.

Parkwood House is our Plymouth based care home, situated in a quiet cul-de-sac overlooking Devonport Park.We are a 45 bedded nursing and residential home providing person centered care in a warm friendly ‘home from home’ environment.

Flexibility
Due to the nature of the role, the post holder must be flexible in their working pattern to support the safe and effective running of the Home. This may include changes to working hours, shift patterns, or providing Kitchen Porter relief cover during colleague holidays or periods of increased operational need. Any changes will be discussed and agreed with the Manager or designated shift lead.
