This is a full-time, permanent role, with a salary of £47,831 - £56,997 per annum plus an annual retention bonus of £3,000 subject to eligibility.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is seeking dedicated and skilled Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to join our Community Mental Health Team. About the team:
Our AMHP Team is set out to fulfil the statutory duty on behalf of RBWM local authority. It is sitting under the Mental Wellbeing Service within Adult Social Care. A core responsibility of the AMHP is to uphold and protect the rights of individuals, ensuring all least restrictive options are explored before compulsory admission is considered under the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007).
The role:
As an AMHP, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments, managing a small and capped caseload of complex cases, and contributing to the prevention of compulsory hospital admissions. This role offers autonomy, regular supervision, access to legal advice, and opportunities for professional development through training and legal updates.
You will work collaboratively with health and social care colleagues to consider referrals and coordinate MHA assessment, aligning with the guiding principles of MHA Code of Practice.
Your role will involve:

Fulfil statutory duties under the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and ensure compliance with relevant policies and Codes of Practice.
- Provide social supervision for service users under s37/41 of the MHA and prepare reports for the Ministry of Justice.
- Promote equality, challenge stigma, and safeguard the human rights of service users and their families.
- Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of Social Workers, students, and trainees.
- Facilitate least restrictive community support options by coordinating resources and working collaboratively with partner agencies.
What we are looking for:
We are seeking a motivated professional with:
A qualified AMHP and relevant professional registration with either SWE, HCPC or NMC.
- Proven experience in mental health services, including risk management and safeguarding.
- A strong understanding of the Mental Health Act, Care Act 2014, and associated legislation.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and organisational skills.
