The Engineering IT / PLM Manager is responsible for the ownership, management, optimisation and continuous improvement of Engineering IT systems, with a primary focus on Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
The role will provide business ownership and technical leadership for PLM capability across Marshall Land Systems, ensuring that the system supports Engineering delivery, configuration control, data management, CAD integration, reporting, process improvement and future business needs.
The role will act as the key interface between Engineering, IT, PLM users, vendors and wider business stakeholders, ensuring that Engineering IT systems are fit for purpose, effectively supported, and aligned to operational and strategic requirements.
Your responsibilities in this role include:
- PLM Ownership & Champion: Own the lifecycle, roadmap, configuration and continuous improvement of PLM and associated Engineering IT applications, identifying opportunities to improve Engineering delivery, data quality, configuration management and business performance.
- Application Portfolio Management: Manage core Engineering IT applications that support PLM, CAD integration, data management, reporting and configuration control.
- Vendor & Contract Management: Manage relationships with PLM vendors, CAD vendors, outsourced service providers and internal IT teams, ensuring performance against support agreements, contract requirements and business needs.
- Support Service & Issue Resolution: Act as the escalation point for PLM-related issues, working with IT, vendors and users, leading incident resolution, root cause analysis, corrective actions and knowledge sharing.
- Knowledge & Documentation: Create and maintain technical specifications, process documents, user guides, support material, FAQs and knowledge articles to improve user support and reduce repeat issues
- Architecture Oversight: Ensure PLM solution designs, integrations, workflows and system changes meet Engineering requirements, enterprise architecture standards, cybersecurity policies and business needs.
- Change Management: Manage configuration changes, system updates, upgrades, patches and enhancements to PLM and Engineering IT applications, ensuring appropriate testing, communication and deployment.
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory, cybersecurity, export control, ITAR and corporate policy requirements, including defence-related standards where applicable.
- Process Ownership & Improvement: Own and continuously improve PLM processes, workflows, procedures, user guidance and ways of working.
- Data Management & Reporting: Support Engineering data management, reporting, audit activity and business intelligence requirements through effective use of PLM data and reporting tools.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Engineering, IT, programme teams, business owners and key users to align PLM capability with business needs.
- Team Leadership: Line manage, lead, develop and prioritise the PLM team, ensuring delivery of an effective and responsive service.
- Budget & Asset Management: Manage software licensing, maintenance agreements and asset lifecycle activities, while supporting budgeting, forecasting and future investment planning.
System Maintenance & Availability: Ensure appropriate PLM system maintenance, health checks, performance reviews and availability monitoring are in place to support business continuity.

Previous Experience:
- Experience managing, supporting or administering PLM systems within Engineering or manufacturing environments.
- Experience of PLM configuration, administration, support, continuous improvement and system change activities, including upgrades, deployments or migrations.
- Experience working with Engineering teams using CAD and PLM tools.
- Experience supporting integration and data transfer between PLM and ERP platforms, including IFS Cloud.
- Experience managing incidents, problem resolution, root cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Experience working with IT teams, vendors and business stakeholders to deliver system improvements.
- Experience leading a small technical team or coordinating cross-functional improvement activities.
- Experience of Windchill is highly desirable.
- Experience with CAD tools such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD or similar is beneficial.
Experience in Engineering configuration management, change control and product data management is beneficial.
Technical Skills/Education:
- Understanding of CAD integration with PLM environments, including tools such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD or similar.
- Knowledge of application maintenance, upgrades, testing and deployment activities.
- Understanding of IT service management, incident management, problem resolution and root cause analysis.
- Ability to document technical specifications, user requirements, process flows and system changes.
- Awareness of reporting and query tools such as SQL, PowerQuery, REST APIs or Query Builder.
- Experience with VMware or other virtualised environments.
- Strong diagnostic, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Understanding of PLM reporting, data extraction and business reporting methods. desirable.
- Awareness of Windchill customisation, workflows, XML configuration, Java or JavaScript development, desirable.
- Strong understanding of PLM-to-ERP integration, particularly with IFS ERP, desirable.
- Configuration Management (CMII) training or certification, desirable.
Additional local needs:
- BPSS and SC clearance may be required.
- The role may require occasional travel between Marshall Land Systems sites and vendor locations.
- The role may require occasional out-of-hours support for planned upgrades, system maintenance, critical incidents or major deployments.
