Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Full-Stack Developer to join our growing technology team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both front-end and back-end development, with proven expertise in Angular, PHP, and SQL, and ideally experience with C# and Microsoft Azure.
This role offers a genuine opportunity to make a difference. You will be working on a nationally significant digital health programme that supports people living with a chronic condition to better manage their health. Helping to improve outcomes for hundreds of thousands of patients across England. If you want your work to have real-world impact, this is that opportunity.
You will be a senior member of the team, working closely with the CTO to lead the technical delivery of a major national rollout of an existing application. Ensuring changes are designed, built, tested and released to a live production environment serving a nationwide user base. This is a hands-on role that requires both technical depth and the confidence to lead delivery independently.
Duties
- Lead the technical delivery of a national rollout of an existing digital health application, owning the full development and release lifecycle from design through to production deployment
- Develop and maintain the Angular front-end application, ensuring a responsive, accessible, and user-friendly experience that meets WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards
- Build and maintain the PHP back-end, including REST API development, business logic, server-side security, and integration with third-party services
- Design and implement integrations with NHS systems and third-party APIs, including OAuth2-based authentication services, notification services, and wearable device APIs
- Work with MySQL and SQL Server: schema design, query optimisation, migrations, and maintaining data integrity across the application
- Conduct code reviews, troubleshoot issues, and perform debugging to maintain high standards of software quality across front-end and back-end codebases
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including clinical and governance stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
Requirements
- Proven experience in senior full-stack software development with strong proficiency in Angular and PHP. These skills are essential
- Solid knowledge of relational databases, particularly MySQL; experience with schema design, query optimisation, and database migrations
- Experience with C# / .NET is desirable, particularly for API and back-end service development. React experience would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure for application deployment and management, including Azure Monitor, Azure Key Vault, and Azure DevOps; experience with BICEP / Infrastructure as Code is advantageous
- Experience with Linux environments, particularly Ubuntu, is desirable
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services and APIs in a production environment
- Ability to take senior technical ownership of a live application: managing your own workload, leading on technical decisions, and acting as the technical point of contact when required
- Experience working within Agile development methodologies in a collaborative team environment
- Experience in digital health, NHS technology, or regulated environments is advantageous but not essential — what matters most is the ability to learn quickly and work responsibly with sensitive data
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail; able to work independently and take initiative as well as contribute as part of a small, close-knit team
- Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science or a related field is preferred
