We are looking for an experienced and innovative Senior Developer to play a key role in designing, building and improving the digital services that support residents, businesses and communities across Reading.
Working within our Digital, Technology and Change team, you'll be responsible for transforming business requirements into high-quality digital products and services within our CRM environment. The role will be involved in the Council’s Case and Customer management (CCM) project, Arcus Global platform built on Salesforce. CCM is an exciting and transformational project for the Council ensuring our teams have the technology they need to provide excellent services to Reading residents. You'll lead software development activities, champion best practice and help drive innovation through automation, integration and modern development approaches.

About the role
This is a hands-on technical role requiring expertise in software development, systems integration and digital service delivery. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders and suppliers to create solutions that are user-focused, accessible and secure.

Lead the design, development and delivery of digital products and services.
- Develop and maintain customer-facing applications and integrations across multiple platforms.
- Work with CRM technologies, including our Customer Contact Management (CCM) platform, to deliver integrated digital services.
- Translate user research and business requirements into effective digital solutions.
- Design and develop APIs, integrations and automated workflows.
- Support continuous improvement through agile delivery, iterative development and continuous release practices.
- Produce detailed technical designs, specifications and documentation.
- Ensure solutions comply with security, accessibility and development standards.
- Lead testing activities, including unit, integration and functional testing.
- Mentor colleagues, promote good development practices and help establish technical standards.
- Explore and implement automation and robotic process solutions to improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal services and external suppliers to improve systems and digital capabilities
About you
We're looking for a talented developer who combines strong technical expertise with a passion for creating user-focused digital services. You'll be comfortable working in agile environments, collaborating with a range of stakeholders and leading the delivery of high-quality solutions that make a real difference to customers.
You'll bring experience across modern software development practices and be confident working with cloud technologies, integrations and digital platforms. Just as importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys solving complex problems, sharing knowledge and driving continuous improvement.
You'll have:

Experience developing and delivering digital products in agile teams.
- Strong Python development skills, with experience using frameworks such as Flask, Django or FastAPI.
- Experience working with APIs, integrations, CRM platforms and cloud technologies
- Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS and modern web development practices.
- Experience using source control and continuous delivery tools.
- The ability to translate business and user needs into effective digital solutions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with Salesforce service cloud
Previous experience in Arcus Global products or Salesforce is desirable for this role
