Salary: £25,000.00 per year
Hours: 35 hours per week (full time)
Reports to: Head of Operations / Team Leader

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Claims Handler specializing in Irresponsible Lending Litigation to join our team. You will manage a caseload of irresponsible lending claims from initial instruction through to settlement or litigation, ensuring that every file progresses efficiently, complies with regulatory and procedural requirements, and delivers the best possible outcome for clients.

The successful candidate will work within a structured litigation process, handling pre-action correspondence, disclosure, negotiations and litigation preparation.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of irresponsible lending claims.
Review affordability reports and supporting evidence.
Assess claim viability in accordance with internal guidance.
Prepare and issue Letters of Claim.
Review lender responses and identify procedural or substantive issues.
Request, review and analyse disclosure documentation.
Draft Pre-Action Disclosure Applications (PADAP) where appropriate.
Negotiate settlements with lenders.
Draft witness statements and instructions for litigation.
Prepare files for issue where settlement cannot be achieved.
Maintain accurate file notes and case management records.
Keep clients updated throughout the life of their claim.
Ensure compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules, Pre-Action Protocols and SRA requirements.
Meet departmental productivity and quality targets.
Escalate complex legal issues to supervisors where required.

Typical Daily Duties

Reviewing new lender responses.
Progressing outstanding disclosure requests.
Drafting legal correspondence.
Conducting settlement negotiations.
Updating clients by telephone or email.
Reviewing diary tasks.
Preparing files for litigation.
Liaising with supervisors regarding strategy.

Essential Skills & Experience

Previous claims handling or litigation experience.
Excellent written communication.
Strong organisational skills.
Ability to manage a high-volume caseload.
Good attention to detail.
Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
Strong telephone manner.
Competent using case management systems.
Confident negotiating with defendants.
Ability to interpret financial documentation.

Desirable Experience

Financial services complaints.
Consumer credit litigation.
Irresponsible lending claims.
Motor finance claims.
Banking or financial disputes.
Civil litigation.
Experience using Proclaim CMS.
Knowledge of the FCA Consumer Credit Sourcebook (CONC).
Knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules.
