Benedex is a robotics and automation engineering company based in Bristol. We design and build high-performance servo drives, integrated wheel systems, and robot controllers — both as original Benedex products and as custom engineering solutions developed with and for our customers.
Our work spans mobile robotics, building automation, precision motion systems, and control hardware. The projects are technically demanding and genuinely varied — one week you might be laying out the power stage of a hardened motor drive; the next, bringing up a sensor board bound for a next-generation robotic platform.

The Role
This is a hands-on role for someone who knows the way around PCB design and assembly. Day to day you’ll be designing, assembling and wiring up electronics. From CAD to soldering fine-pitch and through-hole parts, reworking boards, harnessing looms, and spinning up and bringing to life the boards designed.
You’ll sit shoulder-to-shoulder with experienced power-electronics and hardware engineers. We design on screen and then we build it, test it, and iterate — and you’ll be right in the middle of that. Prototypes get made here, and you’ll make a lot of them.
The work is hands-on. We design on screen and then we build it, test it, and iterate. If you’re equally at home at an EDA workstation and on a workbench, you’ll fit right in.
What We're Looking For
We care far more about raw ability than about fancy CV or letters after your name. A brilliant, curious, hands-on engineer who picks up a problem, owns it, and drives it to a solution is the kind of person we want here — and we’ve hired exactly that way before, to great effect. A relevant degree is welcome but not a hard requirement: if you can show us the hardware you’ve built and prove you can do the work, that’s what counts. What we can’t teach is curiosity, care with your hands, initiative and the instinct to understand why a circuit behaves the way it does.
You should have
– PCB design (at least 3 years): hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB layout — KiCad, Altium, Eagle or similar
– Electronic assembly & soldering: real experience building electronics by hand — fine-pitch/SMD and through-hole soldering, rework, wiring and harnessing, and assembling prototypes
– Hands-on lab skills: comfort at the bench with oscilloscopes, multimeters and bench power supplies to test and debug what you build
– The troubleshooting mindset: genuine curiosity about why a circuit behaves the way it does, and a methodical, self-directed approach to solving problems
– Something to show us: hardware you’ve built — personal projects, coursework or prior work — that proves you can do the job
– Initiative and drive: eagerness to come up with new ideas and improve our products and services
– Reliability & communication: the ability to manage your own work responsibly and to work well with the team
– English: full professional fluency, spoken and written
Nice to have
– A relevant engineering qualification: a degree or apprenticeship in Electrical/Electronic Engineering — but exceptional, demonstrable ability trumps formal credentials here
– Microcontroller tinkering: any embedded/firmware experience is a real plus
