Full job description

Overview

We are seeking a motivated Data Engineer Intern to join our dynamic team. This paid internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in data engineering, working with cutting-edge technologies and tools. The successful candidate will support the development and maintenance of our data infrastructure, contributing to the organisation’s data-driven decision-making processes. A strong interest in data management, analytics, and cloud platforms is essential.

Duties

Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines using tools such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, and Informatica.
Support the integration of data from various sources including AWS cloud services, Oracle databases, and Microsoft SQL Server.
Contribute to the optimisation of data storage solutions such as data warehouses and data lakes.
Help in implementing database design principles to ensure efficient data organisation and retrieval.
Write and maintain SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
Develop scripts using Bash (Unix shell), Shell Scripting, and VBA to automate routine tasks.
Collaborate with senior engineers on analysis projects using Python and analyse large datasets for insights.
Assist in troubleshooting issues related to data pipelines and infrastructure components.
Document processes and workflows to ensure clarity and reproducibility of tasks.

Skills

Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS is highly desirable.
Proficiency in programming languages including Python and Java.
Knowledge of Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Apache Hive, Spark, and related ecosystems.
Experience with database management systems like Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and understanding of database design principles.
Understanding of Data Warehouse concepts and architecture.
Strong analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets effectively.
Experience with scripting languages including Bash (Unix shell) and VBA for automation purposes.
Good organisational skills with an eye for detail to ensure high-quality work output.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing multiple tasks efficiently.

This internship provides valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment, ideal for individuals aspiring to build a career in data engineering or analytics within a technology-driven organisation.

Pay: £36,509.86-£97,823.26 per year
