Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled HVDC Automation Test Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing comprehensive testing procedures for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) automation systems. This role involves analysing complex system interactions, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of automation solutions within electrical power transmission projects. The ideal applicant will possess strong expertise in electrical engineering, system design, and automation technologies, with a focus on delivering innovative solutions that meet industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement detailed test plans for HVDC automation systems, ensuring all specifications and safety standards are met.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify and resolve system faults or performance issues efficiently.
- Utilise CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and SolidWorks to create schematics and design documentation.
- Use simulation software like Simulink and MATLAB to model system behaviour and validate design concepts.
- Programme and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs), ARM microcontrollers, firmware, and signal processing modules.
- Perform debugging, soldering, and surface mount technology (SMT) assembly on electronic components as required.
- Analyse system schematics and electrical diagrams to support system design and integration activities.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure mechanical knowledge aligns with electrical system requirements.
- Utilise scripting languages such as Python and Perl for automation tasks and data analysis.
- Apply knowledge of surface mount technology (SMT), soldering techniques, and electrical experience to ensure hardware integrity.
- Support the realisation of system design through detailed testing, validation, and documentation processes.
Requirements
- Proven experience in electrical engineering with a focus on HVDC or power transmission systems.
- Strong knowledge of System on Chip (SoC), root cause analysis, signal processing, debugging, and firmware development.
- Proficiency in CAD software including AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, SolidWorks; schematic capture experience is essential.
- Hands-on experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), ARM microcontrollers, surface mount technology (SMT), soldering, and electronics assembly.
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as Simulink, MATLAB; expertise in system design is highly desirable.
- Programming skills in Python, C++, Perl; experience with electrical circuit analysis is advantageous.
- Mechanical knowledge relevant to integrating electrical components within mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics and technical drawings accurately.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Pay: £40.00-£45.00 per hour
