Software Engineer - Backend
Location: Remote (with travel to our Group Birkenhead office as required)
Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 per annum (Competitive dependent on experience)
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday Friday.
We are looking for an experienced PHP/Laravel Developer to join our development team and play a key role in designing, building and maintaining enterprise-grade applications. You will take ownership of features from concept through to deployment, developing secure, scalable and high-performing solutions while contributing to the continuous improvement of our products, systems and development processes.
Working closely with the management team and other developers, you will write clean, maintainable and well-tested code, support automation initiatives, investigate emerging technologies, and help drive technical innovation across the business. You'll also provide technical guidance to colleagues and ensure the security, integrity and reliability of our systems.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in PHP and Laravel, a solid understanding of software engineering principles, databases and modern development practices, and enjoys working collaboratively while taking ownership of their work. You are proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality software that supports business growth
Responsibilities:

Build and own features from start to finish plan, build, test and deploy

Writing clean, readable, maintainable and testable code

Developing internal and external systems and products

Developing internal processes through automation

Investigating new technologies
-
Communicating / liaising effectively with the management team throughout development

Ensuring the security and integrity of all systems and data

Providing technical assistance to staff as and when needed

Continually updating personal technical knowledge to ensure we remain innovative
Qualifications & Experience:
-
5+ years' experience working within an IT development-based role

Deep understanding of PHP

2+ years working with Laravel to build enterprise-level applications

Solid understanding of software engineering principles, including SOLID and DRY
-
Solid understanding of MySQL internals, including query optimisation, transaction management, and locking behaviour.
