Web Developer

From SEO and social to web development and AI consultancy, our team helps clients cut through the noise and deliver results that matter.
Role Overview
We're looking for a Web Developer to join our development team and take ownership of building high-quality websites from start to finish. This is a web-development-first role, your focus is creating fast, polished, well-built websites that land at a high standard, every time.
The role is primarily front-end and CMS development, with a healthy amount of backend work too: writing server-side logic, working with databases, and wiring up the functionality behind the sites you build. You won't be running cloud platforms or managing infrastructure day to day, so you can stay focused on doing web development really well.
This is an ideal role for someone who loves building websites end to end and wants to keep sharpening their craft across both the front-end and the backend.
Key Responsibilities
Front-End Development
- Build and maintain websites from build through to launch.
- Implement features using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Develop responsive, cross-browser layouts to a high standard of quality.
- Turn designs into clean, accurate, well-structured pages.
- Customise themes and templates.
- Debug front-end functionality and performance issues.
Backend Development
- Write and maintain server-side logic, typically in PHP.
- Build and customise CMS functionality, plugins, and integrations.
- Work with MySQL / MariaDB databases - writing queries, structuring data, and handling imports and migrations.
- Connect websites to APIs and third-party services.
- Investigate and fix backend bugs and database-related issues.
Quality & Performance
- Take pride in producing high-quality, maintainable builds rather than rushed ones.
- Optimise websites for speed and performance.
- Implement caching where appropriate.
- Troubleshoot slow-loading pages and functionality issues.
- Work with senior developers to review and improve build quality.
What We're Looking For
Core skills
- HTML and CSS - confident building clean, well-structured, responsive layouts.
- JavaScript - comfortable adding interactivity and debugging front-end issues.
- Responsive, cross-browser development - you build sites that look and work well on any device.
- PHP - able to write and work with server-side code.
- CMS experience - you've built or customised sites on at least one CMS (e.g. WordPress), including backend/template work.
- MySQL or MariaDB - comfortable writing queries and working with databases.
A portfolio or examples of websites you've built (personal, freelance, or professional) is the best way to show us this.
Bonuses
You don't need these to apply, but they're a bonus:
- Experience with a modern JavaScript framework or build tools.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and integrations.
- Git version control.
- Basic command-line comfort.
Experience
- At least 1-2 years of experience in web development or a strong portfolio of personal, academic, or freelance projects in place of formal experience.
- A Computer Science degree is welcome but not required; we care more about what you can build.
Personal Skills
- Strong problem-solving ability.
- Attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality builds.
- Willingness to learn new technologies.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently.
