Role Overview
Hunter Construction Aberdeen Ltd is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Senior Contracts Manager to oversee the successful delivery of multiple construction projects across Aberdeen and the surrounding regions. The role requires strong leadership, contract management expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage project teams to deliver high-quality projects safely, on time, and within budget.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining client relationships, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, and driving operational excellence across all stages of construction delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Contract Management
- Oversee multiple construction projects from pre-construction through to completion and handover.
- Administer and manage construction contracts, including JCT, NEC, and bespoke agreements.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Monitor project performance, programme delivery, risk management, and contractual compliance.
- Review project scopes, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Lead project meetings with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Resolve contractual disputes, variations, claims, and commercial issues effectively.
Commercial Management
- Work closely with commercial teams to monitor project costs, valuations, cash flow, and profitability.
- Approve subcontractor packages, procurement strategies, and contract negotiations.
- Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Ensure accurate reporting of project financial performance.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and support Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, and operational teams.
- Promote a positive working culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Assist with recruitment, staff development, and performance management.
- Coordinate resources across projects to maximise efficiency and productivity.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Ensure full compliance with all health & safety legislation and company procedures.
- Promote a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture throughout all operations.
- Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and audits.
- Ensure all works meet required building regulations, industry standards, and client expectations.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Act as the senior point of contact for key stakeholders.
- Attend client progress meetings and provide project updates.
- Support business development activities and contribute to securing repeat business opportunities.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a Senior Contracts Manager or Contracts Manager role within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts including JCT and NEC.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent commercial awareness and financial management skills.
- Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Sound understanding of health & safety legislation and construction best practices.
- Full UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or HNC/HND in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline.
- SMSTS certification.
- CSCS card.
- Experience delivering commercial, residential, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
