Role Purpose
The Mechanical and Electrical Mate / Improver supports the successful delivery of mechanical and electrical installation works across projects, assisting qualified Engineers with the installation, testing, and commissioning of systems.
This role requires a hands-on, reliable individual who works safely and efficiently on site while maintaining high standards of workmanship, compliance, and professionalism. The position is ideal for someone looking to develop a long-term career within the mechanical and electrical industry under structured supervision and training.
Key Responsibilities
Installation Support
- Assist with the installation of mechanical and electrical systems, including various equipment and components.
- Support the positioning and installation of machinery, electrical panels, and associated infrastructure.
- Assist with the installation of piping, wiring, supports, and drainage systems.
- Handle and transport materials, plant, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and high housekeeping standards on site.
Testing, Commissioning & Maintenance Support
- Assist engineers with pressure testing, electrical testing, and commissioning activities under supervision.
- Support basic fault-finding and maintenance tasks as directed.
- Ensure all works are completed in line with drawings, specifications, and site procedures.
Site Coordination
- Work collaboratively with Engineers, Supervisors, Project Managers, and other trades.
- Follow instructions accurately and communicate clearly regarding task progress or issues.
- Support efficient workflow to ensure project deadlines are met.
Health & Safety
- Comply fully with site health & safety rules, company procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Follow issued Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and permit systems.
- Use appropriate PPE at all times.
- Report hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents promptly.
- Maintain a proactive approach to safe working practices at all times.
Skills & Competencies
- Previous construction or M&E (Mechanical and Electrical) site experience.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical services.
- Ability to work effectively under instruction and as part of a team.
- Good time management and reliability.
- CSCS Card (desirable).
- Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge and site-based awareness.
- Commitment to quality workmanship and professional standards.
