The St James Hotel is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Maintenance Assistant to join our driven and highly motivated team on a casual basis.
We are seeking a dedicated and versatile General Maintenance Assistant - Casual to join our team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a keen interest in maintenance and repair tasks across various technical disciplines. The successful candidate will contribute to the upkeep and smooth operation of our facilities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability. This position is ideal for someone with a proactive attitude, strong organisational skills, and a passion for problem-solving within a dynamic environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has recently completed college studies, is looking to gain practical maintenance experience, or has a hands-on approach and enjoys a varied role.
No two days are the same, and you will play an important part in ensuring the hotel is maintained to a high standard for our guests and team members.
Responsibilities
- Assist with routine maintenance tasks across electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems to ensure operational efficiency.
- Support the inspection and troubleshooting of equipment using schematics and technical diagrams.
- Perform basic welding and mechanical repairs as required, adhering to safety standards.
- Assist with the installation, calibration, and servicing of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other automation equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report any issues promptly to supervisory staff.
- Contribute to ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations through regular checks and documentation.
- Support supervising staff in organising maintenance schedules and overseeing minor projects.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing internal client needs professionally and efficiently.
- Carrying out general maintenance and repair work throughout the hotel
- Painting and decorating guest bedrooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas
- Basic plumbing, carpentry, and repair tasks
- Assisting with planned and reactive maintenance
- Car park maintenance, including litter picking, repairs, and general upkeep
- Grounds maintenance and landscaping duties
- Maintaining external areas to ensure they are clean, safe, and presentable
- Supporting health and safety compliance across the property
- Assisting contractors when required
- Reporting maintenance issues and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently
