Gloagburn Farm Shop is seeking an experienced, creative and motivated Butcher to lead our in-house butchery operation.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified butcher with excellent technical skills and strong leadership abilities, to join a successful, growing business and play a key role in shaping the future of Gloagburn Farm Shop's butchery department. The successful candidate will oversee the daily running of the butchery, manage and mentor a small team, maintain exceptional product standards, and help drive innovation and growth across the business
The Job
- Prepare, butcher, and present beef, lamb, pork, poultry, and game to the highest standards.
- Produce and present value-added products in line with Gloagburn recipes and specifications.
- Manufacture a range of products including sausages, pies, sausage rolls, black pudding, and haggis.
- Work with the team to develop new products, seasonal ranges, and retail offerings.
- Prepare meat products for the kitchen and retail food production teams.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a small butchery team, including apprentices.
- Provide coaching, training, and ongoing support to maintain high standards and encourage professional development.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and expert product knowledge at the butchery counter.
- Prepare customer orders for collection and delivery.
- Maintain the highest standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety throughout.
- Complete all required compliance checks, records, and cleaning schedules.
The Person
- Fully qualified butcher with significant experience in a retail, farm shop, or commercial butchery environment.
- Advanced butchery skills across beef, lamb, pork, poultry, and game.
- Ability to create an attractive, innovative retail counter
- Proven ability to lead, manage and develop a butchery team, including apprentices.
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, traceability, allergen management, and product labelling requirements.
- Passion for the product and a commitment to deliver outstanding customer service.
- Ability to work collaboratively with retail, kitchen, and management teams to support business growth.
